Another year in the books. 8 for me. This month will include....

1. Pizza party the 12th. (For meeting saftey quota)
2. $100 Gift cert. (For meeting saftey quota)
3. All unused sick time and personal days paid out the 19th. (Did not miss a day this year, so 72 Hours paid out for me.

Our usuall annual raises will be put off till July this year. They want to align all DC`s to that month. It will be pro rated from Jan till July.
 
That payout of sick/personal time is awesome. Very unusual nowadays....

We can carry over 5 days to the next year - that`s it. Everything else we lose. Rest assured I use every minute.

Thats why I pay out unused sick and vacation time. Last thing I need is the headache of everyone trying to use up all their days in December and the bleep show that ensues trying to cover all those days off.
 
We can roll over what we get for the next year. So myself and the guy I work with usually take a ton of time off at the end of our years which does suck most of the time.

I`ve been with my current employer for just shy of 5 years. Korean-based company. This year, they FINALLY started to allow for pay-out of vacation time not used.

Sick time, at any amount, along with vacation days DO NOT get carried over. Don`t get me started on labor laws. I`ve had those "discussions" with them already.

I didn`t need all my vacation time this year (sometimes, I would take it just to use it up. Use it or lose it!). I had 24 hours of vacation, and 4 hours of sick time left.

So I cashed out what I could....see next line...

I did the math on my 3 days of vacation time not used and to be cashed out and expected a certain amount. I ended up getting around 65% of what I expected.

Come next year, I WILL BE USING EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of my sick and vacation time!!
 
Wow, fantastic that you can get pay-outs yearly for that.

I`m fortunate in that our sick time does not max out and roll over indefinitely. I have around 200 hours of sick time(you get 75 yearly) and around 80 hours of vacation a year(you can only carry over 5 weeks from year to year). Don`t think you get sick paid upon retiring but I know vacation does.
 
Vacation time does not get paid out. You use that or lose it. What I get yearly....

3 weeks vacation.
56 Hours of sick time. (Might go up this year?)
32 Hours of personal time.

True statement on the pay out. Once it is included with your regular pay, the taxes kill it! I am sure I`ll be shocked. One drawback about paid out sick time is there is and will always be the people who come to work sick as a dog. WHY? Because they don`t want to lose that pay out and the end of the year.

Wanted to add, they also hold a perfect attendance dinner. Usually in Feb or March. It is a good dinner and you usually get a $50 pre paid Visa card. You can miss one day for the year, and your still good for this. You are not required to attend the dinner.

On the other end, I have also seen people use all their sick and personal time up.

Our office has been a graveyard since mid-December with everyone using up Vaca time before 3/1, I still have 2+ weeks to use. As a swimming pool service company in Northeast Ohio, not much impact though.

I usually try to take a layoff in January and February but not this year

No slow time in trash pick up and during winter the weather can make it a nightmare. Best thing about trash you always have work, worst thing bout trash you always have to work.
 
Noticed night and evening shift had pizza and Boston Market for the holidays. I must have the anti-holiday manager on day shift since we got zip....just saving the company money!
