WRX Rocker Panel Skirt Problem

We're Here

I know that there are at least two other WRX owners here but maybe others have opinions also. The WRX rocker panel skirts are black plastic regardless of vehicle color. I notice that mine tend to look soiled where my pant legs come in contact getting in and out. Given the fact my current tour involves a desk and an office setting, I can't explain it nor do I have a solution. Anyone else seen anything like this? I'm wondering if its static electricity and I'm rearranging a thin layer of dust when I enter or leave the vehicle making what was essentially invisible, visible? The vehicle is Zaino'd and washed weekly so there's nothing oily on the skirts. Washed the vehicle today and noticed that I didn't totally remove this stuff. Opinions, thoughts welcomed!

Mine gets a dust buildup a couple days after washed. I get alot of static electricity shocks from the WRX. I think it is probably some amount of static electricity attracting the dust. Though mine cleans up fine no residue what so over. Ive used vinylex and zymol vinyl. The zymol seemed to attract less dust IMHO. Great car you do any mods to yours?:nixweiss

Pretty much SCCA Solo legal. Whiteline front bar. Three sets of OEM wheels (RE92's, studded Hakka 1's and Toyo RA-1s - all 205/55-16). Lost the WRX badge. STi pink "stars" grill badge. Colgan full bra with mirrors. The vehicle is white. Would love to go to a more authoritative exhaust system but I have a formal order placed for an STi so that's about all I'm going to put into the WRX.

I put dunlop 5000s on the rest are mostly power mods. TurboXs unichip, samco hoses, mechanical boost control, boost guage. Tires made huge improvement over the Re 92s.

WH,

If you try 303, Vinylex, Etc and your still unhappy give One Grand Exterior Rubber and Vinyl a try.

I tried just about everthing and settled on OG ERV for the outside.

Using it for a few years now.

I replaced the black skirt with the painted ones about a month after I got the car..so I can't comment on your problem..

however, I think most of the WRX static comes from the grippy seats we have.. the cloth gripping material of the seats IMO contributes a lot of the static electricity we got..

I suggest try using plastic/fiberglass protectant like 303 or Klasse (to reduce the static)

I pretty much gave up on those side skirts for now, peoples feet always hit them and crap always bumps into it because im hauling so many people around.

There are also some scuffs from where my shopvac tube rubbed on it. I have no idea how to fix them, I wish I could get shiny skirts tho!!

I have had the car 3 weeks. Here are my mods:

Cobb short throw shifter and bushing

17x7 Prodrive P1 wheels

225/45-17 Pirelli P Zero Rosso

Cobb/Stoptech Stage 3 brake upgrade

Amsoil drop in air filter

Ordered or itching to install:

Upgrade factory grounds (maybe tonight)

Whiteline adjustable rear bar

Whiteline rear heavy duty end links

Whiteline anti lift kit

Samco intercooler hoses

Knife edge throttle body and intercooler passages

Paint rear calipers and hubs to match Stoptech fronts

If you have any hesitation I would definetly do the ground modification. 1 wire from neg battery post to right side of intake post where there are 2 ground wires already will make a big improvement.
