WRX, Excursion, Sequioa, Silverado SS, my car

2004 Subaru WRX. Light to moderate swirls. Optimum was taking too long so I switched to Meguiars DACP using a Meguiars polishing pad, then I used my 'Pink Moose', equal parts Vanilla Moose and Red Machine Glaze with a Meguiars polishing pad. Gave the car a very wet look. I topped it off with Poorboy's Natty's Blue.

2004 Ford Excursion. Overall in decent shape, last polished and waxed in June. Just back from a ski trip in Colorado and a brush car wash while they were there. Some noticable scratches from the brushes. Went over the whole thing with Optimum using a Meguiars polishing pad and finished with Natty's Blue. Pics are a touch dark, finished up just before sunset.

2003 Chevy Silverado SS. Needs some polishing but he wants to wait until spring, just wanted some protection for now. I applied Jeff's Werkstatt Carnauba Jett by hand. Noticably deepened the black color.

My 1999 Mazda 626. I had polished it out a month or so ago and have been layering on carnaubas. Applied Souveran about 2 weeks ago, then washed it and applied Carnauba Jett. Like the Silverado, noticably made my car blacker. :)

2004 Toyota Sequioa. She just wanted a wash, vacuum and wax. The paint was suprisingly swirl free but will probably need polishing the next time for sure.

QEW wash and Natty's Blue. The sun being low in the sky seemed to light up the metallic grey paint like fire so the color seems a bit off. :nixweiss

Oh yeah, since I won't have my cable or internet fixed until late Sunday afternoon, I don't know if I will be able to respond to any questions until then. Luckily, I can use my brother's connection tonight at his house.

A quick question on the excursion, and this may be a dumb question, but did you just use a PC to apply the optimum?

I only have a PC.

zippymbr-I use an MF towel to spread CJ around, then continue wiping until it nearly clears out, then flip the towel and remove any remaining excess. Seems to work best that way.

truzoom-I carry a large photo album with me to show new customers and have 7 other albums at home-plus about 1000 other pictures I don't have room for. Currently, in my 'cars' folder on my computer, I have 2400 images and another 800 in a general picture folder. :)

Oh well, I am gone now until late Sunday evening. Comcast better be on time on Sunday, that is all I can say. I'd sure like to be able to do this again-

Scott, the Carnauba Jett is more comparable (in performance, not application) to a liquid wax, like #26, than to a carnauba-conataining spray like Sonus Carnauba Spritz or Pinnacle Crystal Mist? If yes, do you consider it a "true LSP" as you do OCW?

Optimum taking too long ? went for DACP eh ? surprised to see you went that route, cuz i've rarely seen you use dacp.

so how long did it take to apply and remove the pink moose?

do you do you apply to the whole vehicle first or section at a time, then come back and remove the product?

thanks

Excellent work as always.

It's probably the lighting but I really like the look of the Excursion. Very deep and black.

The Sequioa looks great too, so much depth, and the metallic is popping nicely with Natty's Blue.

Nice work Scott! Can you elaborate a bit on your Pink Moose experience? I've got an empty container to make up some for myself!

This may sound stupid, but if the Optimum was taking too long on the Subaru, how come you used it on the huge Excursion?! What do you mean by too long?

Yeah, CJ seems more like a liquid carnauba, definitely much thicker than a detail spray. In fact, I am sure you could apply it with a foam hand pad if you wished. My understanding from Jeff at Werkstatt is that it is meant as a true LSP. I haven't been using it long enough yet to know how long it lasts but I now have it on two black Silverados I wash conventionally so we will see. :)

I use it like Vanilla Moose. Polishing pad with speeds of 5-6. You can apply and remove per panel or the whole car then remove. Either way, it wipes off with ease. It seems to clean the paint as well as regular VM and leaves the finish as wet as RMG. Real time saver when you are pro since a lot of people will only pay for a few steps. They aren't really interested in a 5 step detail on a daily driver.

tumbler-before I came to Autopia, all I had used for years were Meguiars 80 series polishes in my business. I still go back to DACP and 80 at times. I probably could have used a cutting pad instead but I thought it better to go up a notch with the polish instead of the pad.

Spilchy-DACP was doing in 2-3 slow passes what was taking 6-7 passes with Optimum-and DACP was finishing down almost as well.

I went with Optimum on the Excursion because he wants to do any necessary deep polishing after winter is over. He will be going on a few more ski trips to Colorado. I used DACP and 80 on it the last time I deep polished it. My goal was to get the most defect removal and leave the most LSP ready finish possible in one step and Optimum really works in that regard.
