Wristwatch Question - Quartz vs. Mechanical

citizendiver.jpg

Couldn't help myself... After a week, I decided that titanium Citizen really wasn't what I wanted. I hate to say it, but I kind of knew it at the time I bought it but bought it anyway, thinking I'd grow to like it. Turned out to be the other way around, so I bought this Citizen quartz diver.

I can see where watch collecting could be addicting (nearly as much so as ukulele collecting!). And I'm sure there is a Seiko automatic diver in my future if I can sell the Citizen Ti on Craigslist...

Good choice, but an auto for this version would have been my pick :bigups

I dunno, but as a watch purists I will only wear and own autos for some reason or maybe that is just me.

Here is a good review for an under $200 Japanese watch compared to a $2500 Swiss Omega SeaMaster 007's watch http://www.chronoguy.com/horology/svo/index.htm

The most sought after diver for collectors now, the SAR, the Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Divers watch. Unfortunately they also came out with a quartz model this year too.

Yeah, I checked out some of the Citizen automatic divers that you mentioned on eBay. But in the end I guess I just wanted something I knew would be accurate and I wouldn't have to worry about. That's a really nice watch in the Citizen pic you posted. I actually like the style a bit better than the one I bought - it looks more Seiko-like!

I'm sure that I'll buy some sort of automatic in the near future. There are some very nice Seiko all Japan-made models (divers and military) that can be had for not too much. I like this Seiko military for $99, but the same watch can be had for $62 with just a Japan-made movement (I assume the rest is made in China).

I've also looked at a few Russian export watches (the Poljots you mentioned and Vostok). Both have some nice looking automatics that won't break the bank.

Regarding the SAR watches, I noticed somebody had one of the tritium quartz models up for sale on the Time Zone forum. Maybe my tastes are just too pedestrian, but I would love to have that watch with the SS band!

Really nice pics of the SAR, too bad they aren't for sale in the country where they are made and used - CANADA, instead we have to buy them from a distributor in the USA

Most Seikos are made in Japan, Singapore or Hong Kong, but I haven't notice any quality issues between any of them, I guess enthuasist tend to choose those all made in Japan.

Here is the daily beater I'am currently wearing for nine months now - a Seiko SKXA49K aka the Black Knight auto diver
