Would wax on a car deteroriate if it has been garaged/untouched?

One of the factors for wax to deteriorate is temperature. Will the car be in a garage that's temperature controlled? If it's a nice and cool garage, then I don't think it would be a problem. The reason why I mention temperature is because I experienced this firsthand. I prepped and waxed my new vehicle and kept it in in my garage. It's not my daily driver so it barely sees the sun, perhaps once every two weeks. Anyhow, everytime I would pass through the garage, I would run my hand through the side of the car to feel its slickness. Towards the end of two weeks or so, I could tell a difference. It was not as slick as when I first applied my LSP. Again, it was pretty warm several of those days so the side of the car started to feel more grippy and less slick.

I think humidity will also play a factor in storing a vehicle with wax. Haven't had to deal with too much humidity in my neck of the woods, so I can't write about it too much.

Also, will the car be under a car cover when it's stored?

All waxes will evaporate over time. In my shop I have tool cabinets that I try to keep looking like new. I wax these cabinets using the same waxes and methods that I use on my cars.

Even in an air conditioned enviroment with no sunlight cooking them and no industrial fallout eating away at them the wax just disappears over time.

First the slickness goes away then the shine starts to fade.

Well the car will be stored away for the winter time. Would the winter weather affect the wax protection? Not that the car will need much protection during the storage period anyway, but should it be waxed again in the begining of spring.

To keep your car looking its best I would wax it before you put it away and once again when you remove it from storage.

The wax after storage should be something that could be done very quickly since the finish would not need preped. Just a quick rinse and wax.

My XJS is stored in a climate/humidity controlled garage and is not exposed to sunlight. The wax still deteriorates over time, but it does take a while.

If you do a good prep and wax job before putting it away you can probably just redo with wax when you get it out in the spring. I'd still use something with decent durability though; Souveran might not be my first choice (but then again, that's what's usually on the XJS).
