would this beat police laser?

thats the reason i posted about the laser jammer thing, if you obey the laws, you won't need it. Heck, ive done 110 without gettting caught, and no radar detector. Does that mean i do it all the time, no. As I have said b4, know your areas, and for the most part, obey the law.

FOr laser just let someone speed infront of ya and hide behind at a safe safe safe distance.....

And also look for the staionary cop on the side of the road.....they have to aim the laser with a scope so they must be still and steady.........they are all over Louisiana.....The new trick is the cop will park in shoulder and open his trunk..he then stands in front of vehicle on the side and and shoots his laser......

Eyes are better detectors than any laser detecter....becuase once your laser detector goes off it means you got he aimed at you and you are busted...........Sometimes I get hits when there is cars in front of me I think this happens because the laser goes through or scatters off the car infront and my V1 senses it

95% of the time I don't drive on highways or interstates. When I do it's usually in the middle of rushhour so hopefully I won't have to deal with laser too much. I have the biggest problems with cops sitting on country roads, so I doubt they use laser much.

Some of you have heard my take on this before, but:

As blkZ28Conv's brother would probably say, even if the laser gun doesn't give a (certain) reading, they can pull you based on a "visual" clocking. Radar, laser, lidar, these will help the LEO in court but they usually aren't NECESSARY to issue the ticket, or at least to pull you over and start the "process". And I myself prefer that if/when I get pulled over, the LEO *NOT* be negatively predisposed towards me (it's not like some "dumb cop" won't figure out he got jammed, or be too happy about it). Plenty of LEO's I've known figure a radar detector is ONE thing (and even this is really fairly recent), but that ANY kind of jammer (even if legal) shows an unusual predisposition towards breaking the law. And THAT'S the kind of person they're gonna spend some time and effort on...

e.g., Accumulatorette only got an oral warning/have a nice evening for 63 in a 50 the other week. This was in the WRX with no front plate (illegal in Ohio) in an area, we found out later, where they usually DON'T cut people any breaks. She came across "right" to the LEO so he was

I've heard stories from people (not very credible people mind you) who claim that they know people who have in states where radar detectors are legal had their detectors taken away when a cop busted them for speeding plus gave them a ticket. Can police take a detector away from a person if they are caught speeding in a state where detectors are legal?

I've heard from pretty credible people here in VA that if you get caught with a detector they give you two choices: Run over it, or take a BIG fat ticket... Most people run over it because the ticket is more than a detector... that's what I hear anyway...

They seriously ask you to run over the detector? I'll drive like granny in VA and not use the detector there. What about in states that their legal?

If the detector is not illegal, then that's illegal search and seizure and a violation of constitutional rights - unfortunately, most people are too dumb and too easily intimidated by cops to realize this.

I've also never heard of this happening.

forget jammers and all that stuff. im in a import car club and we have been known to travel long distance at high rates of speed. ti be honest (not trying to get flamed) but its not unuassaly for the group to travel 5-10 cars togehter and cruise at 90-120 for 30 mins to an hour. the key to driving at these rates is 1. know your radar detector. buy a decent one and learns its fuals and patterns. i have a 4 year old whistler 1490 and i use a freinds v1. and i love the 1 and plan to get one soon but b/c i know my detecor and know when to pay attention and when to ignore it i trust it. i promise you 90 percent of tickets can be avoided.

most people with detectors get used to the beep beep beep and say "ahh its just falsing" followed by "damit im getting pulled" buy a good detector and learn it.

2 use your mirrors. ie your leading a pack of cars on the highway all of a suden you notice less and less cars behind you. or our riving and over taking cars (the proper way..not in the right lane) and you see brake lights 1/2 in front . my point is watch traffic patterns and learn the things police do. sorry for the long post

happy and SAFE speeding

The fine in Va for possession and usage of a radar detector is only $30.00. They can not re-possess the unit but instruct you to place in trunk. Of course, this fine is on top of the other volations he will write you up for and the comment - "That thang did not help you much, sir/madam. Have a good day. " :D

It is not how fast you are driving ( within reason) that attracts attention but the way you are driving ( weaving in and out, tailgating, being a total a$$ on the road, etc ) and the conditions ( traffic, wet, night/day, etc.)

:wavey

30 bucks is all? Well if given the choice of taking a speeding ticket (like 90 bucks) plus a ticket for radar (30 bucks), then is it really worth smashing the detecor over that? I mean one could probably get away with taking a safe driving course and paying the 120+ bill rather than ruin a $300 radar.

I didn't read every post, so I'm gonna try a blanket answer.

Lidar is regulated by the FDA, and as such, is not subject to the FCC guidelines that concern police radar. Those are the guidelines that make it a federal no-no to use an active radar jammer against police radar.

As far as the US goes, detectors are illegal only in Washington, D.C.; Virginia; commercial vehicles; and on military bases.

The phone-channel analogy: lidar operates on a wavelength of around 904 nm, since it uses light rather than radio waves. Radar is used on three bands - X (center, 10.525 GHz); K (center, 24.150 GHz), and Ka (33.4 - 36.0 GHz).

Escort and Lidatek are both supposedly quite good; try websites like www.speedzones.com / www.radartest.com / (...) for others, since I'm not all up-to-date on the laser part of speed enforcement.

Ignore RMR (Rocky Mountain Radar). For Ka and supposed "jamming capability", they're generally considered useless.

Your tinted plate thing - I can see how it might reduce the effective range to your car from a police unit, but it's not going to do much of anything significant. Even jammers have that problem - they often aren't foolproof, and they surely aren't perfect, but they can buy you quite a bit of time to get down from extra-legal speeds. I think I read a report saying that what many of them did was cut the distance you could be clocked at by a large percentage. As far as complete jamming, I don't know, but I wouldn't count on it.

VERY true. I've been driving without a radar detector since I got my license - and while I have gotten tickets, I've also blown by plenty of cops doing 10-20 over, and they didn't even budge. If you keep your speeding controlled, you shouldn't have an issue - weaving in and out of traffic is a surefire way to draw attention.
