would this beat police laser?

I know this is a stupid question, but it was bugging me today. And I promise to stop posting so much about police radar soon lol!

Since police aim the laser beam at your headlights or plates, would the beam still work if you have black-out covers for your headlights/ tail lights? Also, would the laser work if you have two overlapping tinted liscense plate covers (I have two layers so the plate doesn't contrast so much with my black car, and haver never gotten any problems from cops)?

no will not work, but there is a school of thought that flat black plates and a very angular surface lots of 90 degree angeles will work well against laser and radar in general

I wonder if my double tinted plate covers help then, it makes the plate really really dark, I'm shocked I haven't gotten any warnings because of it cuz I can't read my plates when I'm looking at the car from like 10 feet away at a slight angle.

No. it will not work(as far as I know). If you want to avoid laser locking on to you, you need a Laser Jammer. Since you are buying an Escort (I too have the 8500 and love it!) Escort makes a jammer that integrates with the 8500. Go to the Escort Store website and look at the jammers. They are not cheap and may not be legal in your area, so check the laws first.

????

Laser and Radar are on completely different wavelengths. It would be like asking, "how do you talk on the phone without making it change the TV channel?"

The two have absolutely nothing in common - the laser jammer will jam laser but won't do a thing to any radar.

Ah ok. I've read all kinds of places on the internet claiming that active jammers are illegal. Maybe the companies making those claims are located in certain states that are illegal to have them?

if you get hit with laser, your done, don't even bother worrying about it so much. You can only have so much protection, therefore, know when and where you can get away with things. the radar detector is there for warnings, getting a laser jammer i think would be a waste of $$$ at this point. The only thing youll have to worry about is that dang spectre that sniffs out radar detectors, its the upgrade from the vg2, but so far, its only used in texas and canada. Be aware of it, no radar detector is safe from it.

Well even if the spectre detects radar detectors, what can they do to you in Texas? Detectors aren't illegal there are they?

As for laser, almost every company that tests radar detectors says that active laser jammers do work, but are illegal. Passive jammers don't work, and consequently aren't illegal.

I have personally seen the Lidatek systems in action, and they do work - it's pretty cool. I think you're getting confused by the radar companies saying that jammers are illegal.

Radar jammers are illegal, laser jammers are not illegal.

Laser is not regulated by the FCC (radar is), therefore, active laser jammers are legal. Check out Lidatek's website - they have a good FAQ section and a good specs section.

If I recall correctly, even Car&Driver tested or reviewed the jammer and indicated that it worked as expected.

Yeah, laser is for some reason regulated by the FDA :nixweiss

The Escort laser "shifter" is one of the best on the market. It would work well with your system indeed. Unlike what hondaguy says, a laser shifter would be a good investment for you if your state uses them frequently.

Lucky for me, I live in PA and I don't see it very often (if ever).

Why are you so concern about laser and radar detection? :nixweiss

Obey the laws of the road and speed in moderation above the posted limit when safe.

If you have a serious need for speed, GO TO A Track or do some AUTOCROSSING. :wavey

Well I live in by god West Virginia, and I have a little ricey Honda Civic. The cops really like to prey on us here:(. Now if I had a Mustang or an F150 then I could get away with murder on the road. Even if I'm not speeding, I still like to know where the cops are sitting because I let off the gas when I pass them so my muffler isn't as loud.

All my police friends including, my brother, are car lovers. What they do not like, be it a Civic or Vette, is misbehaving drivers, illegal equipment, and tinted windows.

If you and your friends are targeted by the local police, I am sure you have/are breaking one the my stated police pet-peeves.
