Worthy of Consideration

Let's hope that in 10 or 20 years you aren't accepting RMB as payment. :(

My son is a Reserve Officer in the Army. He's served twice in Iraq. I don't want him to have to serve again, anywhere for the sake of supporting a corrupt government.

I understand the troops are coming home to a lousy economy. But, that's no reason to keep them abroad and risk their lives and their families futures.

I recall one congressman (actually a women) telling how to balance the budget. She said we had to freeze discretionary spending.

Here is the facts for 2011 federal budget (from Fox News)

Overall 2011 Spending: $3.834 trillion.

2011 Discretionary Spending: $1.415 trillion. (defense and non-defense)

2011 Projected Deficit: $1.267 trillion or 8.3 percent of GDP (down from $1.556 trillion or 10.6 percent of GDP in 2010).

So if we eliminated all defense and non-defense discretionary spending, we would cover the deficit.

The entitlements and mandatory spending:
1, social security: $783 Billion
2. Medicare: $438 Billion (growing about 8% per year)
3. Income security (numerous programs including welfare, veteran/federal worker retirement) : $567 Billion
4. Medicaid: $290 Billion (what the Feds give the states)
5. Veteran's Benefits: $122 Billion
6. Interest on the debt: $251 Billion

It is clear why controling medical costs are key to dealing with the budget.

I would suggest Obama just lay out the simple facts above in an address to the nation to basically tell everyone tax cuts or not touching entitlements is going to solve the problem.
