Wool or Foam?

Hey guys, I was wondering what you guys prefer to buff with?

I know wool, leaves more swirls, and is generally more aggressive... And foam makes the surface hotter, but which is easier?

I've used wool before, never foam.
 
how do you finish polishing if you don't use foam?





Wool is easier, but it's not always needed

but foam is always needed to finish
 
Well when I buff, I use the wool pad.

Then glaze with a waffle pad.

At school, we don't use finishing polish.

Technically, I can buff/finish/glaze with different foam pads right?
 
If its minor, I'll just used foam.



If I need to get more aggressive, purple wool with a foam finish.



If I need to get mid evil, twisted wool, then multi layers of foam and finish.
 
if you are bringing out the twisted wool, then you sill have a 4 step at least

if you bring out the PFW, then at least a 3 step

if you bring out foam cutting pads, 2-3 steps

if you bring out just foam polishing, then 2 steps

if you only have a one step, I stick with the PC (along with other respected members)



With that said, wool is a lot easier to control than foam cutting pads!

I am the exeption in that I look to use wool for everything except finishing. I let Superbee rub off on me.



I use PFW with Meg's for paint correction, Edge Blue Wool with SIP for polishing and a soft foam finishing pad with PO86rd for finihsing.



This is a very affective combination for MY car. I don't know if it would work for all cars.

That can't be good. ;)



But yeah, I do still finish with wool on medium and hard paints. I do concede the point that it can't be done on soft clears, but I *love* the glow it gives... it's just a totally different look. Kinda like comparing wax to sealant. It gives more of the warm waxy glow. Finishing with wool then using a sealant LSP makes for a great look, IMO.



Just make sure you do a very thorough hologram inspection if you're going to finish with wool. Also make sure you're using the correct wool. FWIW, I use Edge white finishing wool. PO85RD is my favorite polish to use when finishing with wool. Final Polish II is next, followed by UF. (UF is my fav for foam).



PO85RD with white finishing wool, followed by FK1 1000P, gives a great look.



PO85RD with white finishing wool, followed by no LSP, gets scratches out of CD's and DVD's very well. Just don't melt the disc.:p

I've been meaning to try that haha. How do you secure the disc for polishing it? Tape it to something?
 
It's actually quite easy to do a final finish with wool if you actually know how to use the wool. Remember there are just as many options out there for wool as there are foam including finishing wool pads that finish up very very nicely.

I hold it in my hand. Makes you *very* aware of how hot the disc is getting. :)
