Wolfgang smearing issues

This past weekend I finally had some time to detail my new-to-me black Grand Cherokee with the Wolf. Here's the process I used:



Wash w/Sonax

Clay Magic

1Z pp w/ Yellow CMA Pad (white pad didn't cut it)

Wolfgang Pre-Sealant Polish w/ White CMA Pad

Wolfgang Sealant w/ Grey CMA Pad



All polishing was done with the PC.



I had some issues removing the sealant. It seemed to leave a very slight haze on the paint which couldn't be buffed off, nor would QD (Quikshine, not Wolf's) remove it. It reminded me of the haze that BFII used to leave, but not as bad. You really had to look to see it, but it was definitely there. I know people have had issues in the past with the Pre-Sealant Polish smearing, but that went on and off with no problems. I even let the sealant sit on the paint for an hour or so, thinking I was removing it too soon (I first tried after about 15 minutes). Temperatures were in the mid-70s, low humidity and in the garage.



I'm thinking that the Wolf is reacting with some of the fillers left over from the 1Z PP that the Pre Polish didn't completely remove. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to get some Menzerna FP and make sure the surface is absolutely pure and free of all fillers, oils, etc. before going to the Wolfgang products. Has anyone else used Wolf right over the 1Z products?



As a side note, I have also used Wolfgang on a silver car and didn't appear to have this problem. However, the only place I needed to use the 1Z PP was on the trunk and it is difficult to tell on silver anyway. Black just shows everything.



The next day though, the haze appears to be gone and the Jeep looks spectacular. This is probably the best I've seen black look and I like it better than the VM/S100 combo I've used on black before. I'll have to look closely and see if the haze has really disappeared and is just not covered under a fine layer of dust.



Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have used 1Z PP with WG. However, I did not get any hazing. PP took out moderate swirls on my older Grand Cherokee and WG pre-sealant worked fine over the PP. Sorry, I can't offer any help.
 
One thought is that maybe it is because the Einzett has carnauba wax in it? I doubt the pre-polish is strong enough to remove a fresh coat of wax...
 
Does the PP have carnauba wax in it? I know the MP does. I may just pick up some FP anyway and give it a shot.

It looks like I answered my own question with a little digging in the Einszett forum. Per Mike at Einszett:



"Two ingredients in all of our polishes (except the body shop silicone-free articles) are silicone oils and carnauba which not only add depth and gloss but they fill in any remaining swirls/light scratches. "



So it appears that the Wolfgang Pre-Sealant Polish isn't strong enough to remove the carnauba that is in the PP. Looks like I'll be trying some Menzerna FP. I've always wanted to, now I have an excuse. :D

It sounds like you are putting the Wolfgang sealant on to thick. I found the thinner you put it on the better the results are. Plus it goes further.:up
 
You might also try, per directions, working the sealant "into" the surface. This not only produces a thin coating but also improves shine. I have applied WG with PC and by hand and this method works pretty well. I have also noticed something strange about WG and hazing on black. When I apply indoors this tends to occur sometimes but I have never had a hazying problem when applied outdoors. :nixweiss

Yup, I did work it in quite a bit as I had heard that it improves the shine. I guess the next step is to use the FP I just ordered. Good to know that I'm not the only one having this issue though.

I've had the hazing issue with Klasse, but found Wolfgang to be incredibly easy to remove. I did find it challenging to get a very thin application by hand, and think on my next try will use a PC to apply it. I have two coats of Wolfgang on my Jet Black M3 now, and it looks like I've applied P21S but the surface is noticeably slicker. So far so good!
 
Sealants require time to cure. The haze you are seeing is normal. I saw it myself when I used WG (I will be posting a formal review shortly). I've also seen the exact same thing when I've used klasse. And for both products the haze cleared up the next day. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yup, one week later and all is well. This is my first true black car, so I wasn't sure what I'd be in for. :D Now if only I could get my CCD to not leave a haze behind. I think I'm just going to give up on it. :rolleyes:
