Once a week, as usual, just because I can't stand the gunk that builds up on the tires and rims, and lower body panels....

During the spring, summer and fall seasons, most of us keep our daily drivers pretty clean!

But here comes winter (Hey Florida guys, I'm not talking to you!!!)

Bill,
I find it hardest to get my mind around the fact that all of my life I have looked at winter the same way most northerners do, bad weather. Now I have to look at it like, "Great, winter is coming and I can get outside more often". It is so hot and humid most of the year it makes being outside miserable. And for all those people thinking how bad winter is, you can at least bundle up to go outside. Down here, you can only take off so many pieces of clothing before the neighbors complain or laugh themselves to death.
I can now go out and spend some real time working on my car, trying out some of the new products we are looking at, (hint, hint).
We are considering some interesting ideas to help everyone pass the time of winter. Stay tuned.

Sounds great! (You know I'll stay tuned.)

I give my car a quick spray down with water onlyto get the big stuff off, then give it an ONR wash in the garage with the portable kerosene heater cranking. It's not too bad that way.

if i have a few days of clear weather i'll clean it up. hate to wash it when its only gonna be bad weather tommorrow or the day after. i do have onr now so that makes it much more doable during those cold winter days...

Once the temp starts staying below freezing during the day, it will be late March or April before I can wash it again. Also, all the outside spigots are winterized. If you use the local carwash, your whole car is iced over till the sun can melt it off. ( Experience speaking!!)

Wyoming winters!:chillpill::chillpill::chillpill: That would be a tough place to live in the winter (especially if you're a detailer!!!):scared::D

I'll wash it as often as I have enough spare change laying around to run it through the coin-op or touchless (which will probably be at least once a week). On the weekends, a dash to the coin-op and ONR in the heated garage is pretty easy, provided I have the 3 hours it takes to safely do all this. When the weather is above 34F, it gets a regular wash in the driveway with the hose and 2BM.

One of my clients told me just to text him when my car is filthy, and I can bring it over and wash it in his (4 car) garage, complete with heated water and a drain. :cornut:

You'll protect your car the best you can, but how often will you wash your car during the winter months?

Depends on weather and driving conditions. First half nice day above 34F after a snow storm I do a high pressure self serve to rinse off the crud. Then the first nice day above 45F I do a good hand wash at home.

We usually get a couple days in the low 50sF in January then I add a coat of sealant.

I'm not opposed to bucket washing if the temperature is above 40, but that can be pretty rare in the winter here. I'm looking forward to see
what I can achieve with ONR this year.

If you have a garage and can close the door after running the car for a while (such as pulling in after a 45 minute drive), open the hood for about 30 minutes - really helps to warm the garage.

Next, get one gallon warm water and add your no-rinse solution of choice. As long as your ride isn't caked with crud a no rinse wash in cold weather actually does a really nice job!

That's exactly how I do it when the temps outside are below 40 degrees.

Another thing that helps warm my garage... the wall mounted garage vac! So I vacuum the cars, takes maybe 5-10 minutes, and the airflow coming from the discharge side of the vac is nice warm air!
