Winter Safety Prep Item: Check the Air Pressure in Your Tires

So with this blizzard and foot of snow yesterday. I was talking to a neighbor who got his AWD SUV stuck. He was telling me he was told it was a good winter vehicle, and he had just gotten new tires. I said winter tires would make all the difference. His reply was but it`s all wheel drive. I proceed to tell him the tires are the only thing that touches the road. So I recommended some blizzak`s. He says yeah I have them on the Prius.

It it really shows the mentality some people have about awd.

My Audi has Quattro but that doesn’t give me license to drive like a maniac.

To their defense, it was just stuck in the deep snow. It wasn`t a slide off or from driving too fast. It was in a spot that I made it through in the Buick with FWD and blizzak`s.

Tire Rack did a test on a rear drive BMW on winter tires vs. an AWD something on stock (all-season) tires, guess which won? Yeah, RWD/winter.

What drives me nuts is the emphasis [certain individuals] place on "not getting stuck". I don`t care if anybody gets stuck, I care about whether they have 100% control of their vehicle when it`s moving.

Well, I guess what really [ticks] me off is when somebody acts like he`s a hero for driving through winter weather on inappropriate tires...no, you`re a lucky [individual] who`s somehow escaped Darwinism...for now...don`t take me or mine with you when your luck runs out.

As I`ve posted countless times, the diff between AS tires and Winter tires on my Quattros and the 4WD Tahoe is absolutely night-and-day. No comparison at all, period. Sheesh, some of us knew to run four snows way back in the `70s, even as high school kids who thought ourselves immortal.

Setec Astonomy- Yeah, those are great! You *know* how I love the early Audi bodystyle :D (my `93 V8 is the last of `em with that original design.) Audi was using a different AWD system then too, one that I like better in the winter. Those early Quattro Coupes are becoming prized collectibles, but I can`t imagine trying to get parts for them, at least not based on what I`m going through with ours.
