This last week we had a rain storm move threw the area, for a couple of days and the ole S&W was in full action on by black BMW.

I thought that I would ask everyone how they use S&W your technique and share mine in the efforts of gaining some new knowledge and giving some back.

I also started this thread to help introduce this great product to those that haven't used it yet.


I use a spray bottle that has a fairly fine misting nozzle so that I can spray a fine even mist of product on the car, this also seems to reduce down the amount of product that I use........For wiping I use a PB large WW MF towel.

My Process:

Spray down a panel and wait a minute for the dirt to get real wet then wipe down the panel, turn the towel over and repeat the area.
The way that I move around the car is that when I start to wipe down the first panel I spray the next so that it starts soaking.....I keep turning the towel threw out the process...I like to start with the windows so that I am using the cleanest towel then onto the paint, and finish with the rims.
 
Glad this thread was started... As a newbie to the S&W process I wasnt sure if I was doing it properly.
I will add that my first 16oz went VERY fast probably because I wasnt using the correct nozzle output from the supplied bottle. It was coming out like a stream instead of a spray.
Since then, I have "dialed down" the sprayer and have used it more sparingly.

My "technique" is to spray the whole panel and wait a half minute or so... then using a regular MF wipe gently top to bottom. Flip over as necessary.. Then once the whole panel is wiped 1x, go back over it with the MF total clean side (it usually has some streaking left)....
Then If Im up to it, hit it with S&G to amp up the shine.

Glad it helped you....go to Home Depot or some place like that and buy a new sprayer with a finer nozzle..mine mists the panel with a very even coverage...you might also try the two MF towel method...use one to wipe the area clean the next then the next clean one to dry completely get rid of the streaks...I do this at times if I'm not going to use the S&G after...I always do this method with S&G
 
If you are getting streaks at all you are using TOO much. A fine spray without saturating the panel is all that is needed. Using an absorbant thick microfiber when there is dirt (like a DMT or Mega-Plush) , or when there is only light dust an absorbant final polishing cloth, (like our 21 x 36 Velvet Smooth) will make the cleaning go faster and you will use less product.
An average 16oz bottle should do at least 6-8 cars when used with the described method. Also remember to let the weight of the microfiber do the work, not you muscles :) ...meaning..no rubbing ;) just Spray and Wipe.:cool:
 
I just Did Spray and wipe on my 91 Legend.

I like to use the smaller Waffle Weave Towel. I mist in on a panel, wait a minute and wipe. I always go over the entire car with Spray and Gloss afterward as well. Then After spray and gloss I take a more plush microfiber and wipe the car down to make sure there are no smears. Sometimes I'll do a coat of wax in between the S&W and S&G also. hehehehe

I seem to be in a better mood when my Legend is clean. LOL

You aren't the only one that I have read that uses a waffle weave towel, but I would be concerned that the WW wouldn't have enough nap to keep the dirt the S&W picks up away from the paint. For that reason, I use my most plush towels for the S&W.
It evidently has been working for you so maybe it isn't that much of an issue.

I also switch to a new waffle weave for almost every panel. Then the dirty one goes into my "dirty box" so it can be washed.
 
Like CharlesW, I use my plushest and most absorbent towels with S&W. My current towel of choice is Poorboy's DMT (I just received some of Dwayne's Prestige towels and believe they will work equally well). I use a high volume nozzle set to its finest mist setting. I spray about 1/4 of a car at a time (roof, front, rear, center). I lightly wipe using little more than the weight of the towel on a single panel (or maybe only half a panel if there is more dirt), then flip to a clean section and make a second pass over the panel. The plushest sides are used on paint, and the flatter nap is used on glass. Change towels often. I use about six to eight 16" x 16" towels for an average passenger car.

P.S. In my neck of the woods, winter means QEW or NRWS since it's too cold for a traditional hose wash outside of the garage. ;) However, S&W or diluted Bug Squash makes for a very nice pre-soak!

I was thinking the exact same thing. I love to use S&W in conjunction with a waterless wash like QEW, Optimum No Rinse, or DP 4-in-1. I usually mist the panel I am washing before hand with S&W to add lubricity and prevent marring.

Try adding an ounce of S&W directly into your no rinse wash bucket. That will add to the lubricity too.
