Windshield

I can personally attest to the fact that barkeepers friend will not scratch glass, even when used with a PC. It is EXTREMELY difficult to scratch glass with even agressive household cleaners and polishes. Glass is extremely hard.

I have a shower which has a glass surround. The glass has been etched by hard water. I tried everything I can think of and nothing scratched it except for 220 grit sand paper (in a test area). I even tried the most abrasive compound I could find and it didn't scratch it. So far nothing has been able to polish out the etching.

I have heard that auto glass has protective coatings applied to it. If this is true, you might do damage to the protective coatings with harsh polishes.

Pondscum, have you tried Brasso on your shower?

It's interesting you should mention that because I bought some about a week or two ago from a hardware store that was going out of business (thanks to China-mart), but haven't got around to trying it yet. I don't expect it will, but I'll try it. I've tried various abrasives as well as very strong commercial acid cleaners. The hard water stains themselves are gone, the problem is they were on the glass so long they actually etched the glass.

At our old house, my wife used Tilex for years and the tubs and showers always looked great. The water is much harder here so even though we used Tilex religiously, the hard water stains crept up on us. Now I use AIO on my showers every month or so and we squeegy before we get out. This has stopped it from getting any worse, but I haven't been able to eradicate the etching.
