Windshield Polishing - Which Products?

Hey Folks, I'm wondering which of the products I own would be suitable for polishing a windshield.

I thought I'd use the PC with 4" pads - polishing or finishing??

Here are the polishes I own:

IP

FP2

#80

#82

#83

3M Perfect-It III

05933

05937

Thanks :)

I am pretty sure you have to be exceptionally careful polishing a windsheild so that you don't damage the optically correct shape of the glass.

Just sayin'.

You need a glass polish for windshields. Zaino and Duragloss make one. Ceramiclear polishes such as 106 may work. You can try FP2 but I suspect it will be too mild.

I use SIP and a black LC pad at 1k on the rotary. Glass is far harder than the hardest ceramiclear clear coat. The abrasives that are used in true glass polishes would tear the clear right off your car.

I'll use DG 501 as my go-to windshied polish and hand apply it with an orange pad and Polishing Pal. Very easy and its a great AIO that gets rid of the gunk accumulated on the windshield. Leaves it very clean and smooth. Then I use IG to remove any residue.

I wouldn't use any of the Meguiars products you listed on windows. They are a little more oily and leave streaking issues (in my experience).

That said, I've used Poli_Seal with great results. It removed some stuff and left a great protection and was crazy slick afterwards. I've also used DG105 and it worked pretty well to clean up and protect the windows.

That's correct. You can use just about any type of abrasive polish on glass. I don't buy glass polish; I use Optimum Compound, 1Z PP, KAIO. If you want to take the oils out, just wipe off with 50% alcohol after - piece of cake.

I made a big order awhile back from autogeek and purchased a pad that had some abrasions in the pad already, it's yellow. Has anyone used one of these? I planned on using it with some poorboys professional polish. My windshield is VERY bad b/c about 100k of the miles put on it were highway miles.

the product depends on what your trying to do..if your trying to remove any lite scratches...wiper trails..you need a dedicated glass polish with Cerium oxide in it...its one of the only abrasive that will polish out lite scratches and wiper trails....

for just getting the glass clean of any water marks and such...I have used Menz and Presta...but the best results came from either 1Z glass polish or Mothers Power Metal polish..yes it works on glass and head light restorations....these two product gave the glass a diamond look....

Now if your trying to get rid of road pits in glass...its very hard...I have not succeeded in it...

now some glass is softer than others so have to be careful what you use as you can dull the look also....1Z has not failed me yet on numerous types of glass...

I too purchased those at the end of last season but have yet to use them. Iam looking to use them with the zaino glass polish.Hope to maybe use it over this weekend.

Well I know there's a 100% chance it won't look brand new, but any little bit would help. So how strong of a polish can be used on glass?
