Windshield cleaner

Have you tried steel wool? I use "5-0" aka #00000 steel wool on windows all the time.

You can also try Bon Ami scouring powder and a scrub brush.

Hell, you could always just try gasonline, put a little on a towel and see if it works. Yes I'm serious, just use such a small amount that it evaporates before it has a chance to run down the windshield (insert standard boilerplate here such as not doing this in a closed garage while smoking :p )

My "go to" universal solvent is acetone. Be careful not to drip it on the paint, but I would be surprised if it and the #00000 steel wool doesn't remove whatever is on the windshield.

In a pinch I used DG 105 to clean up a glue-like substance on the windshield. Worked like a charm, so much in fact I did the entire windshield. Smooth and clean...

If a glass cleaner didn't clean it off, I doubt that 105, with very little correcting ability, would.

Not true.

I tried Invisible Glass first. Okay, several times and even let it soak in a bit. The "glue" didn't budge one bit. The 105 must have somethingin it as the goop came off immediately.

Bought an Auto Glass stripper from No touch, will see if I have better luck with that one.

What's DG 105?

DG105 is Duragloss 105, a highly-regarded sealant which has very little correction ability. I'm surprised DG105 can remove adhesives though...

ricka, I'd probably use something for the job, such as WD-40, Goo-Gone, etc. Why waste the good sealant for glue removal :)

I done see why a polish wouldn't remove this....I good smooth cut polish or KAIO will remove this with a buffer or a little elbow grease with no problem.

if you dont have KAIO then simple green and some ajax and steel wool will be sure to take that right off! :) we used simple green and ajax with a purple stuff mix while I was in the Army to strip wax off floors in the barracks, works like a champ! :)

I suspect that you are dealing with adhesive from a plastic applied to protect the windshield from shipping damage. I have dealt with similar issues on furniture and mirrors and have tried goo-gone and a long list of solvents with little success. The adhesive seems impervious. Zaino makes a great glass polish that I rarely use, but it has proven itself to me on the cars and for these around the house applications. It combines a mild abrasive with enough solvent to eliminate adhesives as well as road grime. Expensive but worth it. Also, I have had good luck with ZAIO cleaning and then keeping the windshield in good shape. If ZAIO doesm't do the trick, pull out the Z1.

Fabre, if KAIO is applied thinly and removed after it dries (hazes), there will be no hazing on the windshield. Just like there's no hazing when you wax a car and buff off the excess.

cshorey is right. Have you asked your windshield installer what the heck is on your windshield? He should have the responsibility of at least telling you what's on there and what you can do to remove it.
