Window Tint 'Residue'

Just had the tint removed from a 6 year old car. The rear window has some kind of effect that I cannot remove/clear up.

Hard to describe... you can see it, but you can't touch it. I've tried many solutions/blades and heat with no success.

What's up? Was the laminated glass physically changed over the years of UV exposure?

Been there. It's not fun. Only suggestions i have are acitone or a product called tint off. Those are the best things i've found. And heck the only ones at that. The glass could have been etched somehow as well in wich case as steve said. Try a polish.
 
Use Tuff-Stuff (or pretty much any carpet cleaner)
and a 3m WHITE scrubby pad (the other colors are too harsh)

Spray the Tuff-Stuff on window and allow to work for a couple of minutes, and then respray and scrub away with the 3m pad, you will want to have a few on hand and try to cover the rear area with some towels to avoid spotting.

I tint windows for a dealership and I use the above everyday!

Thanks for your input. Today I tried straight ammonia, with and without heat...

Also tried, among others:

Valugard A-B-C system
Valugard Omni
Valugard New Car Prep (Solvent)
Valugard 'Cerrious' (New, not released)
razor blade
3m tar remover
others I can't remember...

Tomorrow we buff!

Cerrious (I have no idea if that's the correct spelling - my sample is unlabled) is for removing etched water spots...

I've not had a good candidate, to date, to properly evaluate the product.

I'm going to speak with Ron Ketchum this morning about the window 'stains'. I'll followup here in a day or so. So far, I'm not very optimistic about any solution...

BTW, just too soon to give an opinion on the 'Cerrious'.

aiight my friends here's what ya do....

The residue is "tint glue"....all ya need is a spray bottle with about a teaspoon of soap (any soft soap will due, hand soap, carwash, dawn etc.) fill the rest of the bottle with water and shake it up good so it's mixed well. Soak your window good with the solution, let stand for about 10 seconds and with a NEW razor blade start scraping it (I use downward strokes) off. The glue will slide right off very easily and look like glue boogers at the bottom of the window. Make sure you get the boogers out of the window creases BEFORE the solution dries or you'll play hell getting it out when it redries to glue. Just keep the glass wet until all of the glue is off, then follow up with your regular window cleaning regiment. As for the back window, you can use the same soapy solution but you'll have to use a scrub pad or 0000 steal wool as you'll scrape the defroster lines off with the razor blade. I learned this from a pro tinter years ago. You dont always need fancy products or tools just immagination :D
 
NO! It did not come off.

I had three reps look at it (AutoMagic, Malco and Eagle One). All three actually applied at least one product/technique.

I think the glass is etched. A change in the physical propeties of the surface of the glass.

Owner/dealer is going on vacation - so we won't know for awhile...

FYI..... I'm not a vendor and i don't make money. I just get great deals and can often pass them on. Only when it comes to colision repair materials though.
