Window tint recommendation

I have a 2004 Silver Acura Tl with gray interior. I'm looking for a window tint that is not real dark, approx 35%, but will enhance the looks of the car. What would u recommend? Thanks

Formula One tints are the best IMO. I got my 2004 Acura TL anthracite metallic done a few days after I bought the car. These tints are nice. Go to the Formula One automotive film website and look for a dealer near you. Get the pinnacle series film as it is the best they offer. I got 35% all the way around I think.

I'm looking to do the same thing on my Black on Black Audi.

I've checked out V-kool and some others. Then there's the question of what type of tint to get.

Dyed

Metalic

Dyed/Metalic

Creamic

NYS is 70% VLT on the doors and nothing on the front winsheild. I don't want something pimp black, just along the lines of what you said, to set off the look of the car but most importantly to keep the interior cool.

With black leather it gets mighty hot in there.

What LJ said... Given, I've only got two tintable windows (windshield isn't legal and rear is plastic). I think my film is 3M (it's been 5 years) semi-metallic black 20% and any lighter is too light. Very nice.

20% all around is what I'd go with... I have 5% in the back and 20% on the sides, I would have the 20% in the rear too had my car not come with the 5% on it already.

My choice would be 20% all the way around.

Here's mine. All of the windows except the two front windows came from the factory already tinted. I put 20% on the two front (untinted) windows, and then 35% on top of the already factory tinted ones to get this:

I hope all of you are only tinting your windows for appearance sake. Dark windows may "look cool", but the effect they produce are really the opposite.

Many people mistakenly think tinted windows will make their interior temperature cooler. Unless you get some kind of metallic tint, darkening your windows will actually make your interior temperature hotter. The metalized tint will reflect heat.

I can't agree with that. I've had every single car I've owned tinted with both metallic and non-metallic and it has *always* reduced the overall temps. inside drastically.

Sure, the metallic tint will *reflect* more light but even the non-metallic stops the light from penetrating the interior, thus the percentages (20%, 35%, etc.)

I guess it could get a little hotter while parked when you get into tint darker than 20%. But actually i find it a real PITA when i am driving down the road, it is 5PM and the sun is setting on my drivers side, glaring on my face. I also got it for apperance, uv protection of interior, glare, apperance, and privacy

20% on all sides

10% on back window.

I wish I had gone 15% but the 20% gives a nice contrast to the car. MUCH BETTER THAN STOCK...

Here's some pictures so u can get an idea of what I'm talking about.

You can see how the angle you look at the car can dramatically change the look of the tint. I can't remember what tint it is but it has held up well. Just remember not to use ammonia on them and not to open your windows for at least 3-5 days after to prolong the life of the tint.

Sorry to be a pic whore, just want you to understand what you want. It's a big investment and you don't want to have to do it again.:)

Typical polyester tint material will cause a parked car's windows to heat faster than those with no tint. Tinted windows just block visible light and actually absorb the radiant heat energy of the sun. After a vehicle spends just a few minutes parked in the sun, traditionally tinted windows will store all the energy they can hold. The windows will then radiate their stored energy in all directions and superheat the car's interior.

The dark coloring attracts heat faster than a clear window. Take a black box and clear box. Set both of them in the sun and place a thermometer inside both boxes. After some period of time remove both boxes and read the thermometers. A dark colored surface absorbs most of the radiant energy of the sun and the temperature inside the black box will be higher than the clear one.

Metallic, reflective tinting will reflect light/heat and make a car cooler. This is probably true for the ceramic coated tints, too. A typical polyester tint material will not.

See the attached link that backs up the science below...

I've got 50 all around, but I'm looking to darken them significantly as I'm moving to Florida. Anyone know what the legal limit is there, and if I could get bagged for having those tints when I bring my car back to Maine for the summer (it'll have Florida Tech plates).

FL 28% 15% 15% front/sides/back

http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

but once you get to FL you will see almost everyone runs 20% or darker up front so i guess they are not that strict

if the car is registered in FL, they are not supposed to ticket you for equipment violations in MN?. they could still give you a hard time tho
