i touched up a few rust spots on my 1997 Mercedes E420 using spray can paints, and as i expected the colors don't match exactly, and what's worse the edges between the old and new paint looks quite noticeable.

now keep in mind that this is an old car and i wasn't looking for a professional result. i don't think i want to mess with anymore painting b/c i think it'll just make the car look worse.

after i wait for 30 days, would clayingi & other detailing take out some of the overspray? thanks for any tips or advice

Wha... I have a 97 del sol... and i consider it new even if it is peaking 10 years and almost 100k miles. :o

(you'll get some great responces, dont worry)

If you are not happy, it might be one of the few times to use a strong solvent like lacquer thinner to remove fresh paint from cured paint. Do not let it dwell! Fresh paint will wipe right off.

Find a better match or get an auto body to match the paint. Find someone or a way to spray the auto body paint.

If you are not concerned about the mismatch, you can remove the overspray with "old fashion" rubbing compound. Apply it by gently rubbing a thin amount back and forth a few times, and then buff it off. Repeat until smooth. You only want to get back to the original finish. You will have to follow up with a fine polishing product.
