Hi DCers, My Mom called me today all shook up, saying she was scared and that a tree had fallen on her house and she didn't know what to do. Nobody was hurt so I told her just to call the insurance company and I would be over to help where I could. This is what I found when I got there.

One good strong gust of wind and this limb too will be on the ground If we are lucky enough that it doesn't fall on the house.

There is a lot of damage to the tree itself, at least three of the main limbs need to be taken down. I recieved a quote of $350 to get the big limb off of the house and to cut back the damaged limbs from the tree and an additional $200 to do a weight reduction to the tree.

These quotes are just to cut and run. So if we go this route I'll be gassing up the chainsaw and won't be here on DC for about a week or more.

Wow, Dave!! I'm so glad that no one was hurt!!

Didn't you just do some tree trimming/removal for her?? :hmmm:

Thanks Norah, I see on a regular basis that someone always has things worse so we will just work through this. It certainly could have been much worse. That storm took down probably 30 trees in her neighborhood and to my knowledge nobody was hurt.

Yes I did just cut up a limb from that tree only a few weeks ago. This time while the tree guy is there I'll have him just go ahead and do the weight reduction to the tree and that will take care of future limbs falling. It Must have been a PA twister because some facia was pulled loose on the other side of the house too.

If thats Bridgeport? They even talked about the straight line winds on the news last night. That price isnt to bad if they take tree and limbs with them.

Tough day/night in Bridgeport.

I was about 5 miles from there when it happend.....

That's not a bad price Dave, they can save you more damage from occurring. Nice to see its just the House and not personal injury with mom or anyone else. I am happy no one was injured, trees can be replaced.:bigups:cheers:

TD, just to echo the comments above, it appears that damage to the structure was minimal compared to what could have happened with a tree that size and certainly happy no one sustained any injury. I'm sure that you Mom will be glad to see you coming to her rescue.

As far as the quote, that sounds like a very reasonable price (assuming we're talking about the tree in the first photo) compared to tree services in this area. There would be an additional fee to have the stump ground.

wow Dave that is a huge piece of tree and looks quite healthy :wow:

as others have said, good no one was hurt :bigups all the other stuff can be fixed

Glad Mom's OK, Dave.

Be careful yourself. That can be dangerous work.

Hey! Have you called the Discovery Channel?! Suburban Logger... Mondays at 10, 9 Central

My Brother in law and his son cleaned up the tree mess before I got over there, a couple of machines they are!!! So I patched up the holes and cleaned the rest of the gutters. A branch went right through the side wall and into her linen closet on the second floor. Erie insurance is taking care of her on this ordeal and have even offered to have the tree removed completely (it is not a healthy tree) Thanks for all of your replies and concerns.

Thank goodness for family. And even insurance, the necessary evil. :)

IMO, that is what DC is about. A community that cares about and offers support for its friends and neighbors.
