Why is Aerospace 303 Protectant Whiting out the door panels on my Vette?

Hello,

If pictures are necessary then I will post some. Basically I got out there today and Aerospaced the interior of my C6 Vette; I have never had this happen before. Looks like parts of the door are "whited out," and other parts are glossy. Streaks all over the door panel. I took the time to spray on and buff till dry...... I can't figure out why this is happening. Interior looks horrible. Looks almost like i waxed the black door panels. What do I do to fix this, and why is this stuff not working????

did you interior panels happen to be super hot?? Sometimes if you car sits in the hot sun, then you go to wipe your interior down, youll get streaks and sometimes whitening...pictures will help when you get around to them...

What kindof cleaners do you have? 303 Cleaner and Cockpit Premium will remove it I know. Most APCs will as well. What you're experiencing is why I have stopped using any dressings of any kind.

I've seen this before it could be intensification of over use of cleaning products and may well be a surfactant build up.On our personal cream puff vehicles it's not necessary to use APCs etc. at every cleaning. Try maybe stripping the surface w/ a diluted vinegar solution.

Danspeed1- I had something like that happen with my C5 'vette, my Pinnacle dressing left white residue for some reason...that product just didn't get along well with that car's interior materials.

I cleaned things off with Griot's Interior Cleaner, but you might need something stronger. Then I'd just try a different dressing (if you use one at all). IIRC I ended up using AutoGlym's interior dressing but I can't remember for certain; the trick was to find something that didn't leave the white residue.

SuperBee has me doing ONR/distilled water wipe downs, verse a dressing. So far I'm liking it, reduces dust, leaves matte finish, and easy to use.

Cheers,

Diluted to QD?

Appears that the 303 is reacting to something you've used previously.

Just got the car in November so this is my first time cleaning it out really. I can imagine the last owner probably armor-all'ed the sh*t out of it (you had to meet the guy to understand). I really don't feel to comfortable using vinegar. What type of APC's are you referring to? I have Zaino leather cleaner (although its not leather), I have castrol super clean APC (but there is no way i am using that stuff on it). Can I get away with using lexol or something like it?

i am a C6 owner. the condition you have was actually there BEFORE you applied 303. my car is 2 years old now and has had the white hazing for over a year (i have a cashmere interior). first of all, alot of guys that use their cars as DD don't talk about this condition much. GQ's however seem to. mine is a GQ and only has 4,000 miles on it. it sits in an air conditioned garage (windows and top up) giving that vinyl a great place to "off gas". i NEVER put anything on my interior - except for the leather. i just wipe the surfaces down with a dampened warm cotton towel (you have to really rub). megs QD doesn't even work well on this stuff because its too "soft". back to you problem at hand. i would use an APC/rinse as many times as it took to remove the 303 and film. then just leave it alone and wipe the interior down once a month. if you are driving the car alot and the windows are down or a/c pulling in outside air this should deminish the effect. if you park it inside, leave the windows cracked an inch or so to let the air circulate. this interior material is very strange stuff. good luck.

p.s. :secret you can go to 2005 C6 Corvette Information - 2005 Corvette C6 Information - Corvettes for Sale , follow the links to the C6 section and join the communiy!

it almost looks like he cleaned it with something abrasive to try and get the scuffs off..... #%$^%$@*%^&*% scuffs(they scuff very easy with no way to fix them afaik) then put some gooey stuff to cover it up and sell it and your 303 just cleaned it right off and showed the true condition. may have to find some gooey coverup that you are ok with.

lets hope that isnt the case!!!

That's the point I was making in my earlier post - our cream puffs don't really require strong detergents on a regular basis - practice tough love!

To elaborate further: I was cleaning my daughter's car whom lives away from us when I had this same thing happen. Although hers is a Focus, her panel is a hard plastic as yours appears to be (idk anything about 'Vettes.) Being that she is from my loins she takes good car of her car (two buckets, mfs, yadda, yadda) I found she uses a variety of cleaning products on her interior at almost every wash. The short story is once I wiped down her interior and applied 303 I saw the same as you posted. I used a 1:4 vinegar solution to strip the detergents and reapplied 303 w/ no probs, good luck w/ yours and hoping this will help others.
