Why doesn't my Aquapel work?

I've been a long time user of Rain-X, but I've hated having to apply it so often. I recenly purchased a packet of Aquapel hearing that it lasts up to 6 months (my last application of Rain-X was about a month ago--tho i feel that the effecst of my Rain-X lasts but only a few days).

I cleaned my windshield with with Invisible Glass, and made sure it was completely dry. I applied my Aquapel, waited for it to dry, and buffed it off. It's been raining the past couple days and my Aquapel has been doing jack crap. I've had to use my wipers more so now than I did when I religiously applied Rain-X.

I was wondering if anyone knew how Aquapel worked? Does it interfere with Rain-X? Or does it require a brand spanking new Windshield to get real results?

Any input would help. Thanks a bunch.

That is great, but it doesn't help the situation. He isn't asking if Aquapel is a good product. He is wondering why it didn't seem to do anything on his windshield.

Are you sure you got a fresh sample? I have seen ebay auctions where they are selling off really really old stock of this stuff. If it was the old STP version then I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work. You might want to consider contacting the place you purchased it from.

I've been a RainX user for over 10 years now. I've found that it lasts plenty long for me. There are some versions of RainX that are crap though... the stuff in the spray bottle is total crap. It didn't even make it to my discontinued product shelf. I poured it on a bothersome wasp nest instead because I knew I'd never use the rest of it on anything. The only version I trust is the original squeeze bottle with the little spout lid. Everything else I've tried from them hasn't worked at all.
 
It sounds like you could still have some Rain-X residue which has interferred with the bonding of the Aquapel.

The full benefits of Aquapel are not realized unless your windshield is "squeaky" clean. I'd give it another shot and try some AIO or glass polish to prep before applying the Aquapel.

When you squeezed the two plastic wings together, did you notice a chemical reaction, and a light smoke comming out as you applied the product to the windscreen??, if not, then maybe you did get a out of date product. cant think of anything else.

we offer aquapel in our master treatment package, and we have never had a complaint, more so that they are surprised it lasts soo long, i use it myself, and have had it on now for nearly 9 months, and its still working. IT DONT RAIN TOO MUCH HERE IN SPAIN THOUGH, SO MAYBE IT LASTS longer here.

I did not notice any smoke (light or heavy). Am I supposed to? I'm pretty sure that I got a good sample because I got it from my friend, who's a distributor, and he had recently ordered a box.

When I use the glass polish or AIO, can I apply it by hand, or do I need some sort of buffer?
 
tchou-- You can try the AIO first by hand. I would try a terry type applicator since it would be more aggressive than foam/mf. If this doesn't cleanup the windhsield enough, try a PC with either AIO or the glass polish. The glass polish isn't going to work too well by hand.
 
You can use Chrome polish as a glass polish. (Mothers says right on the label "for glass," but it also leaves a "polymer protection," so that may also affect bonding of the Aquapel.)
As a chemical cleaning, try isopropyl alcohol.
I'm not sure about the AIO, as I've never used it, but I've heard it leaves some acrylic protection behind, so I'm not sure if that would affect the Aquapel or not.
 
Big Leegr is spot on about AIO leaving some acrylic protection behind. I would definitely use straight isopropyl alcohol after the AIO to ensure the best bonding of the Aquapel resin.
 
i use APC+ to clean my window then follow up with a glass cleaner (EO 20/20, IG, NXT, etc). You must have a window free from dirt or any other residue.
Never had a problem with aquapel following this routine.
