Why can't I detail in the sunlight?

I know for a fact that the temperatures of darker paint can exceed 200 degrees F! Especially black! This can potentially change the chemical make up of many 'products'.which is not a good thing for finishes.

Some products work ok, and some don't. I have applied zaino on a silver car on 90 degree days in the sun, but never black. On a black car I wouldn't use zaino in the sun if it was over 80 degree's...............

So if I am detailing a blue/green Chevy Express in cool dry weather with 3M and Klasse products I "should" be all set.

I would really like to detail in the sun all the time, gives you a really good view of swirl marks. How many you have taken care of and how many are left.

Oh well, off to do the van tomorrow, would of done it last week but I heard of rain, it stunk waking up at noon time to see nothing but sun a a few bright white summer clouds. Oh well.

Can you give me a little more detail on why I should not let it dry. I'll take your word for it but I would just like to know incase someone else would like to know and for my one satisfaction.

Does that really happen or do you think it happens? It's just that I am detailing my fathers van tomorrow and if I mess this up he doesn't care how old I am, he'll break my legs and shove the Porter Cable down my throat.

well I'm sorry, I honestly I don't know, when I use SMR I use what DK said back and forth and buff off immediately..

in addition, I've never detailed in direct hot sunlight...

So I will let more experienced members tell you why :)

When you think about it, there can be no benefit to letting polishes dry on the paint. They work only while they are being rubbed. Once you've stopped rubbing them into the paint, you can immediately take it off. DK is right about being difficult to remove. I let SMR dry one time and it was a real PIA to remove.

direct sunlight

You could have sunburn problems ;)

Washing/Drying your car in the sun leads to waterspots and streaks.

Since many products are water based, heating them up will change thier properties. As for the oil based ones their melting temperatures can come into play.

Good point. 100% correct. If your hands soften the carnuba blends at body temp, I couldn't imaging the wax ever setting on a 150 degree degree black surface in the sun........

you can have my old zaino bottles.......

Maybe you can squeeze enough out of them for 1/2 a car...LOL

...or just smell them all day long wishing you had some..........hehe

zaino bottle's  no thanks, I don't even want the product let alone the bottles, my Klasse bottles are only at half cause I use so less :p

haha, just kidding :D i'm trying Zaino this spring, cause my car's silver, DK you funny ha ha!!

I detail in the sun, and only under one circumstance, it is cool to the touch (car) and it is not humid.

As for the 3M polish, I used a QD to help remove the residue. Helps out a lot.

Just my 1 cent

Geez, the only 2 reasons why you can't detail in sunlight are, everything you put on your vehicle dries too quickly. And the most important reason of all is, the beer gets warm too darn quickly! Enjoy!
