Whould these be enough?

Hi

I have a Black 2001 F150 truck

I don't like how color is right now(even when waxing) and I would like to give it an Extreme MakeOver.

With some help of yours I researched and learnt a bit of what to do.

So basically I need to prepare the paint to then polish and Waxing..

So this is what I just got from PepBoys.

Please, could you give me some opinios or tips before I start.

(like how many coats of what, etc.)

Meguiar's Soft Wash Gel

Meguiar's Deep Crystal 3 Steps:

- Paint cleaner

- Polish

- Carnauba Wax

Mother's Clay Bar, couldn't get it separetly si it came with:

Mother's ShowTime Instant Detailer

Mother's Carnauba Cleaner Wax (small bottle)

Would this be enough to try and get my truck LOOK AS NEW ?

So far I understand I would do the following:

- Wash with Down

- Meguiar's Paint Cleaner

- Mother's Clay bar with its Instant detailer(according to bottle instructions)

- Meguiar's Polish

- Meguiar's Carnauba Wax

These are the steps after reading some of their directions and trying to combinate them.

But I haven't read them well yet.

Any opinions ?

Thank you

Giorgio

First of all you don't have to wash with dawn soap you can use the Soft Wash Gel if you would like that instead. The clay and paint cleaner will remove any wax that is still remaining on the paint. I would Clay first then do the meguiars paint cleaner. Everything else would seem fine then.

Perfect!

I was going to use Dawn for removing residues.

But if the clay or paint cleaner will do it then great.

Thank you for your tips

Would you think there is something else I better do(2 hands of this and then 3 hands of that, etc)

... or did I miss some other kind of product?

Thank you

Giorgio

I think the products will be good but I forgot to mention last time that you could put 2 coats of the carnauba wax on for added protection, gloss, and depth.

well you can wash with any car wash you dont have to use DOWN LOL!

if your getting these things from the pepboys why not just get the meguiars 9, 7 & nxt instead of the deep crystal system ? your technique as far as what to do is good but you wont be disappointed with the 9 7 nxt combo especially on blk

Series1

Thanks for the tip :)

I thought of dawn as old residues remover, because I just bought Soft shampoo, for the latter use. Didn't know Paint Cleaner or Clay would be enough.

I did saw M9,M7 and NXT but I didn't buy it because of several reasons.

- I don't know any

- I saw the 3 steps system also from meguiars

- Made more sense to me than the others, I don't know what place would they take.

- They were half price, I had no problem paying more but I don't know if those would do better job.

Are the M9, M7 and NXT better than the 3steps system ?

Thank you very much

#9 is a mildly abrasive polish that will remove some swirls if your truck has any. Polishing would also clean the old wax and other stuff off of your truck.

#7 is similar to the polish from the three step system. The polish you got is what Meguiar's calls a pure polish -- no abrasives to remove swirls. It just adds oils to the paint to make it look good.

NXT would replace the Carnuba wax that you got. Since it is a synthetic wax, it will probably last longer than what you have. It has some mild cleaners in it as well as some fillers to help hide some of the swirl marks. Lots of positive reviews about it.

With all that said, the three step system will provide you with a good start in making your truck look good! As you get more experience, you'll probably want to try other products and see how you can improve the look. It becomes an addiction! :) Right now, you want to concentrate on learning how to use your products properly..

Perfect!

Very useful information.

I'm a bout to start in just few min.

P.D. BTW, would you tell me you Steps list with the products of your prefence(considering my truck, it does have swirls and scratches, just 1 or 2 times polished in 3+ years)

With some scratches and swirls, I think you would be better off with Meguiar's ScratchX . According to this thread it is more abrasive than the Cleaner that you got. It would probably do a better job at removing the swirls. Here is some good information on it. You could then follow that up with the Deep Crystal Polish or go straight to the carnuba wax.

For the polish you have, try using some of the tips in this thread as well. #7 and the Deep Crystal polish are pretty similar.

Since you're using Meguiar's products, you may also enjoy looking around www.meguiarsonline.com -- a forum just for Meguiar's stuff.

I think you're on the right track.. continue reading and learning :up If it were me, I'd try ScratchX and NXT.. but that's just because I'm curious about those two products and I've used the DC system before.

I'm now applying the Paint Cleaner(Already washed, Clayed, Washed)

Is 7:00AM, and the Paint Cleaner doesn't seem to dry, maybe is the Morning Humidity.

I supose I need to wait the product to dry.

Done!

I really liked the results.

It looks Darker, Cleaner, Feels Smooth, No swirls, The swirls below the Gas cap can barely be seen when looking very close(the cap is atached so it hits the paint when opened)

The paint has deep look, like 3D, that is that it seems to be a second surfase below a crystal coat.

But Somehow, I think it could be better because I was on the road and there were 2 black cars in front of me, a Lexus and a Nissan(Avalan or something like that).

The Nissan looked kind of gray and the Lexus looked very dark black. Though both seemed new and clean.

I went again to Pepboys but I didn't buy the #7 nor #26 because a read in one of them a label that said "Original formula, New presentation". And the other I think mentioned the same ingredients than the 3 Steps system.

Again I'm not sure but I think it would get the same results.

What can I do next?

I saw the Polish to be the harsdest to remove but I also saw the article about its issues.

Polish showed dark marks... so I guess it could be managed to get an even Dark look.

Do you guys think that I could try again applying Polish(2coats), and then waxing(2 or 3 coats)?
