Who's into car audio?

I don't know if I've asked this before, and it's prtobably been asked by someone before anyway, but we're always getting new members eh? :dnaughty

I'm constantly fooling with the system in my Heep- Not that it's anything special, but for what it is, it rocks. I've got Hertz Hi Energy 5.25" coax's in my doors, cheap arse Alpine 3-ways in boxes behind the front seats, a 250w Digital Audio amp powering the Hertz', and a generic Alpine HU for the brain. I've sealed and stuffed the crap outta the doors with Poly-fil, and fiddled with it non stop since I got it all. I had an Audison SRx2 170w powering the coax's, but that unfortunately got water damage I just put the DA in maybe a week ago. The rear's faded out just enough for some rear fill, and the coax's just wail. The bass response is incredible too, it's pretty damned good for 5.25" speakers :bigups

Anyway, let's see/hear about what anyone else has got. I've got no work today and I'm bored, so I figgered I'd start a thread

My setup is more odd than cool. I've got a disconnected 1200 watt amp in the trunk that gets connected to two 12" enclosed subs on occasion. Most of the time I need my trunk space for other things, so they aren't in there all the time. That is connected back to my Sony HU that is actually an MDLP format compatible MiniDisc player. I love MDs because they never skip and can't be scratched. I can put just as much music on one as a CD, so I really don't know why they didn't catch on more in the US. They were big in Canada and overseas, but Americans just didn't seem to do much with them.

Attached to the MD player is a really unique little auxillary device. It allows me to connect my 10 disc CD/MP3 changer as well as a couple other things. It has a USB input for connection to a laptop to play audio through as well as another AUX input and a headphone jack. So my kids video player connects to it and allows the video to play through the car stereo. When I am using the GPS on my laptop I can connect the USB and just play my music through there and still be able to hear the verbal directions that it provides me. I think I'm all gadgeted out on this car for now. lol

My next steps include LCD monitors in the head supports and built in navigation in the dash. The AUX device is a unilink controled thing, so I just need to find a HU that uses a unilink cable to control cd changers and such. That will be a project for later this summer though. I'm still looking for the best options for what I want to accomplish.

The current video player the kids use is under the driver seat with the cable running over the hump. I'm exploring a bluetooth solution even as we speak that might work well and eliminate the need for the cable. Now if I could only stream power to the device wirelessly I'd be all set. lol

I wish I were still into it but over the years I have let other things take priority over getting a nice system again. I'm holding out for when I get my Jeep. I will spend some money on the system for that.:drool:

My first nice car was a 1984 Celica GTS and I remember spending $800.00 for my amplifier and had a trunk full of speakers when I was just out of high school. That car rocked. I miss it.

My 95 Jeep had a stepped on sterio...Two Precision Power amps with crossovers...Pioneer super tuner this was the only face plate that fit and looked OEM.. MB Quarts speakers...I had a custom sub that was built for the back of the jeep that was all covered in OEM material...5K is what I had into it at the time.

Today I'm just happy with whatever is in the car anymore

I used to be big into it as well, but since I have gotten older and more money aware...I have just been happy with what comes in cars...

I love listening to music and can't remember when I haven't, at 10 or 11 I remember buying home theater speakers at Best Buy
I think it's just one of those things that keeps me busy, I hate sitting around so it's one more excuse to fool around with the Jeep. For me personally it's worth spending a bread money on a quality system, but with how loud my tires can be on some surfaces, and the wind blowing around you at 75 with no top, you have to have good stuff to hear your music :lol2:
I love pulling up to people blasting mainstream rap and just dorwning them with Metallica, Nirvana, whatever is in the cd player at the time

I'm sure my priorities will change in the years to come, and I've noticed I've already started becoming frugal, but I'll always have to have good, loud music :dnaughty

Jngrbrdman- I remember the days of removing the sub :rofl For a while I had a 10" Boston in the back of my Heep and took it out every day to load up my supplies. I do miss having a sub, mainly for some aded punch, but I'm pretty happy with what I've got for now, I've been fooling with the stereo since I put it in and it finally sounds like I want it to.
My fav/ sub was an Image Dynamics ID12V3, holy CRAP that thing sounded clean. I needed the extra room so I traded my cousin for the Boston 10", and soon after blew it out, stupid POS . I think when I get a new sub down the road, it'll be an ID

Trevor (Moparaddict) is really into the car audio/video scene, I believe he became a certified installer a while back? I haven't seen any of his work first hand but I've heard he's had some niiice systems
