My PC goes to 7...
Since NXT "killed my FMJ" (see previous thread ), I had originally intended to redo my truck this weekend with AIO and FMJ. But when I started the detail I realized that most of my detailing supplies were at my new house (I'm kind of in the middle of a move). I had a little 2 oz. bottle of AIO, but for the topper my choice was between an old formulation of UPP and Klasse Sealant Glaze.
Just a little over 3 years ago I bought my first "real" detailing supplies -- a Klasse Concours Kit from CMA. I used the SG once or twice, found it difficult to wipe off, and then moved on to other sealants. I have never used it since. But today I decided to give it another try, having more experience in applying and removing sealants, and also armed with the Bill North WOO method.
I gave the truck a QEW, then AIO with a white CMA pad. For the SG, I couldn't remember exactly how to do the WOO method so I guess I just made my own variant. I applied the SG to half a panel with a dry microfiber applicator, then immediately wiped the excess off with a dry MF towel. After letting it cure for about an hour, I buffed it off with a dry MF towel, then did a final wipedown with Sonus QD.
Wow, what could be easier? Being a liquid, SG went on easier than any other sealant I've used (Zaino, UPP, FMJ, Blackfire). With other sealants, I find that I have to use more pressure than I like to get them to spread thinly on the paint. The SG almost went on by itself, and I was able to get a really thin layer with hardly any effort. Wiping the excess off immediately made the final removal very easy. I didn't have to rub and rub like the last time I used SG (non-WOO method). Most of the SG came off with a dry MF, and the stubborn places buffed right out with the Sonus QD.
As far as looks go, I have to say that I like the SG look better than FMJ. It seems to be a little more reflective on my dark metallic grey, whereas FMJ and UPP have a warmer look. After I got everything finished I went to get some dinner, and the SG really looked nice in the full sun. SG gave my red Toyota paint a "candy apple" look that I didn't really care for, but on this grey it really looks good.
I posted a couple of pics in the Click & Brag forum.
