Who details the car key/FOB?

Hello all. My buddy just had his VW GTI detailed last week and he was showing me the car. Still some paint issues like swirls, but I said it looked good since he was happy.

Anywho, they detailed his key REALLY well. His switchblade key was grimy (I recall saying that to myself last time I drove his car)

The metal was buffed or something cause it looks brand new. The plastic had to be steam cleaned or something and the cracks around the buttons were all cleared out and then it was treated with something to make the plastic shine, but not feel greasy.

I was blown away by the key 10x more than the job done on the car!!!

If it was not for the one scratch at the bottom of the key from when he threw it against a brick wall (drunks are fun) I would swear the detail shop just bought a new key!!

I was just wondering, do a lot of pros do this?

I would assume it depends on the level of the detail. On a $200 job, I doubt anyone would be doing this. On a $2000 job, perhaps, yes.

^^^^^ what he said!

getting paid to have a free for all on the car, touch and refine every aspect of it! getting paid for a certain amount, do whats more important in the customers eyes

Amazing what some can do with a Dremel tool and an assortment of wool cylinders and cones, toothpicks or larger sewing needles, Q-tips, APC, Flitz, and high-quality paste carnauba wax and a little time and effort.

(Confessions of an OCD, maybe??)

Are you sure they steam-cleaned it??

You can clean out keys in a minute with a toothbrush and some compressed air.

I've even cleaned dirty shoes in the trunks of my customers.
