White paint turning yellow in some places

What would make white paint turn yellowish in some places? I've never seen white paint turn yellowish before. Sorry i don't have any pictures.

Questions:

What make and model of car is it?

How old is the car?

Does it sit outside all the time?

Has the car ever been repainted anywhere?

Where are the "Yellow Places" occuring on the car?

Do you live/work anywhere near factories/airports that you may park the car for extended periods of time?

Here's some educated quesses:

If yellowing occurs on the hood, it may be due to engine heat.

If it occurs on the bottom rocker panels, it may be due to blacktop asphalt (tar) that sat too long on the panels.

If it occurrs on the top panels (trunk, roof, hood), it may be due to acid rain/industrial fallout.

If the car came from a flood area as a used car or lived it's earlier life near the ocean, it may be early signs of rust forming underneath the panels.

How to correct:

I would start with a paint surface cleaner first (but NOT a cleaner-wax). If that does't help, you may need try a polish like Meg's Swirl X or 205. If that doesn't work, you may need to compound (a more agressive polish) with like Meg's Ultimate Compound or M105. Always start with the least agressive method on a test spot, and work UP to the next step. Once you find what works, apply the process to the other spots. You'll probably end up doing the whole vehicle so it all looks the same when you are done.

If it's below the clearcoat (assuming it's a newer car), a re-paint is in order because you cannot get to the paint pigment without going through the clearcoat.

One of my coworkers had a yellow stain on her rocker panel underneath the driver's door. Apparently, when she took her car in for maintenance, they sprayed something on the inside of the door that leaked (leaks) out through the drainage holes of the door.

The car has been repainted. The spots where the paint looks yellowish look like they are under the clearcoat. I wash and wax the car on a regular basis. How can the paint be going bad?

Have you tried using a paint cleaner?

The car is always under the sun but I wouldn't agree because i wash and wax the car on a regular basis. I've never encountered yellow oxidation from white paint. Usually when white oxidizes it just fades and gets cloudy.

Ok, but you've said it's clearcoated...how about yellowing of the clearcoat?

I heard that could be a possibility. I've never encountered that problem before. What causes the clearcoat to yellow?

It's only wax, man. We don't even know that "yellowing" is what has happened. It's not supposed to...but could be cheap product, old product, improperly mixed product...Flashtime is a painter, he might have more insight.
