White Paint Question

I have read on here that some white paints do not have clear coat. How can you tell? If your car does not have a clear coat, when you apply a paint cleanser shouldn't a tiny amount of paint show up on the applicator?

The way I know how to check is to use wetsand paper, the residue should be very very white, if its single stage. But you have to know what your doing, and I would not recommend it.

Just get some polish and put it on a colored microfiber towel and rub it on the paint-if it is colored white then it is single stage.

And if it doesn't have clear coat, have fun polishing that, its probably one of the hardest paints out there.

I'll have to disagree. I did a 3000gt that was single stage and it wasn't HARD. Maybe it's the cars I've done, but I dont think the single stage is HARD as audi clear.

That is what I am worried about. I don't own a PC, UDM, or other polisher so I would have to polish it by hand. And if white paint is as hard as you guys say, polishing it by hand my be a hopeless cause. Would you agree?

The easiest way is to check your paint code. Just call up Sherman Williams or Finsih Master & they'll let you know.

I didn't realize Sherman Williams was that heavy in auto paint. I may just have to give that a try.

Well, since Eclipses (the car I am talking about) and 3000GT's are both Mitsubishi's so hopefully they both have the same paint. Again not looking forward to hand polishing hard paint, if it is even possible.
