White Hyundai with Oxidation

I'm helping a friend this weekend clean up his little white Hyundai which he literally never washes. The paint is moderately chalky with oxidation, which I would say is the main issue to tackle. I did a test spot today with a hand polishing pad which PAC used to sell (red on one side and white on the other) and AIO. The AIO did a good job of removing the oxidation which is a perfectly acceptable outcome, not concerned with correction.

So my question to the Klasse junkies out there is, what is the most aggressive pad you have used with Klasse. I usually work on cars in like new condition so a black or green pad is fine. Can I get away with an orange pad to add a bit of bite to the AIO?

For the members who haven't used Klasse I will add an alternate question. For oxidation removal what is your go to? For a one step product I also have Prime Strong, XMT 360, Meg M20, and D151. I figure Gary Dean may recommend the D151 with an orange pad (maybe not).

Anyway, throw some ideas at me on how to tackle the oxidation with Klasse or another product/pad combo. I have a PC and Makita rotary with various LC pads.

Thanks in advance.

I do not like Klasse. But if an AIO is what you are looking for, then D151 will serve you well! I'd try a white LC pad first then upgrade to an orange if needed. D151 is prolly the most aggressive AIO that I have tried while still finishing down nicely.

White is the most aggressive I've used with Klasse. I've never worked on a car that had oxidation like you describe though. All the cars iced used Klasse on were just swirled

Ok so I answered my own question today. I was able to remove most of the oxidation on this car with Klasse AIO. I say most because some of the oxidation was deep and the paint is a bit marked in those spots. I really wish I had taken a before shot showing the 50/50 but I just jumped right into the work so I could finish before the temps were to high for Klasse. I used a green polishing pad on a PC speed 4. Worked like a charm. I would like to go over the car again to touch up a few spots but the guy who owns it is a point A to point B guy when it comes to cars and is really happy with how it looks now. This is not the greatest pic (taken with my phone) but you can see that the trunk now has a reflection where before it was completely chalky.

I must say I am really impressed with what Klasse does to oxidation without abrasives. I work mostly on like new finishes and never had to tackle a finish like this. I had a few polishes on stand by just in case. My go to would have been Ultimate Compound on the PC if the Klasse hadn't worked. I wanted to keep it to an AIO if possible. I think it worked out well. I followed up with Werkstatt Trigger for added protection.

I suggested that we go over the car again in a bit to tackle the finish a little more aggressively.

D151 will work well on oxidation, but my personal favorite is Menzerna Power Finish. That suff cuts oxidation right away and leaves a stellar finish when used with orange or white.

Edit: WOW! Looks like Klasse AIO did a fantastic job! Nice work!

Thanks!

I have D151 and thought of that too. I also have Power Finish. I like both of them. I did a test spot and he was happy with it so I went with it. I have a lot of Klasse on hand. :D I almost did one panel with the D151 just to see how it would do.

Oxidation is depressing. I had a Toyota truck back in high school that was chalky and it always seemed to come back after polishing. If I could talk this guy into waxing it now and then he could preserve it for a while, but I fear the finish may return. He has owned the car for 5 years and has only washed it a hand full of times. This was more of a mercy job today. I just couldn't stand the chalky finish.

I also hit the rubber trim and seals with 303.

Always something new to learn !Ive tried klasse AIO on several oxidized single stages and NEVER has worked for me so I stopped even trying and go straight to polish or then compound if that doesnt work.

I didnt think it had enough abrasives since its more of a cleaner type polish.

Nice you saved yourself a step !

You did a good job. I think Klasse AIO takes a back burner because it doesn't have any abrasives but I can work surprisingly well with the right pad

Thanks!

The car doesnt even have a chance if he wont wash or wax it often enough I hate to say .It wont be long before its oxidized again sadly.I would only give it a couple months before it starts to lose its shine .

Most customers dont even recognize oxidized white because its harder to see so try to keep an eye on it and make him pay next time if he wants you to do it again!:D

I think if I can get him to hit it with a cleaner wax every few months he has a chance.
I agree!

I have a customer with a white toyota tundra who I only needed to compound out once with heavy oxidation and for several years now all I need to do is use a cleaner wax every 3 or 4 months and its been perfect.

Just stress to him the importance of washing it too!

My customers with single stage oxidation get a thorough lecture from me about washing their vehicles !

Nice job Bio.....er, TID10! Do you guys know why many manufacturers holding onto SS paint reserve it for their white vehicles?
