Which towels work best for glass cleaning?

I like using Walmart's Mainstays generic mf glass towel (found in the kitchenwares section) to do the cleaning and a light wipe with a generic Sam's club mf towel for the drying pass. I don't get any linting. It costs a little over $3 for a pack of 2. I always thought the towels that BigAl3 suggested would be good for windows too, but I've yet to try it because I save those towels for removing wax or polish.

bigal, do you use pakshaks or vikings?:thx

i have the vikings, and also a few other versions as well (mothers, megs, etc). they all work great...

I used to use newspaper before mf towels became popular. They work well, but I hated picking up the little bits and pieces that fall apart, not to mention sometimes my hands would be dirty from the ink on the paper.

IMO the newspaper approach worked better back when autoglass was really *glass* as opposed to the polymer stuff they use today. I also wonder if the eco-friendly inks now in use do the same polishing that yesterday's ink used to do :nixweiss

But generally, it's just too messy for my taste. I don't even like newspapers around the interiors of the good cars. Sure wouldn't want the newspaper to accidentally touch the window trim (let alone the paint  ) around the outside glass either.

For me, the biggest challenge with glass in winter...salty messes that tend to smear instead of wiping off. The WWMFs for glass were the best thing I've ever used for this, but I still preceded them with a pass using small cotton towels, just to get the worst off. I guess most people are more bothered by interior glass surfaces, but I seem to do OK on those.

I use the special window cleaning paper towels from Griot's. The towels and their window cleaner do a great job.

Yeah, those are the Polypro. wipes I use for the final passes :xyxthumbs

If the glass is really dirty, I go at it with newspaper/vinegar, newspaper/Stoner's IG, and then MF/Stoner's IG. I like using newspaper for dirty glass so that I won't have to "waste" my MF's.

I use cotton towels in sorta the same way- for the initial passes to get most of the [stuff] off. Then they just go in the washer when I have a full load. Cleaning up the dog-haulers' windows every day, I *need* something reusable for the nasty work :D Same thing in the winter.

pakshak has those particular ones, but you can get virtually the same ones made by Viking minus the difference in color at your local k-mart, kragen, etc..

I picked up a viking microfiber towel exactly like this one. I saw that viking also has microfiber glass towels, but I didn't like how there was no nap at all to them. I haven't had a chance yet to try it out, maybe tomorrow.

the only viking mf towels that i like/use are the edgeless polishing towel, the green quick mf detailing towel, (the old small blue mf drying towel, discontinued now) and the gold x-large mf drying towel. these all are top notch...

waffle weave towles such as the pakshak glass towel.. I have had really good luck with the poorboys glass towel also, but made the mistake of washing it with my nasty wax/polish microfiber towels, and ever since then, it sucks. It's amazing how just a lil wash even in detergent will still leave a glass towel contaimated with all kinds of crap. I'm on the verge of just using new mircofibers, and throwing them out when I'm done. Nothing beats using a brand new microfiber towel for any job.. the effort just seems so much less

Yeah, my best MFs for glass get washed by themselves. I know they'll eventually start to lint, but I don't want to take any chances with them until then.

I use PakShak WW glass MFs as well.

I wash my glass MFs with ERA and then do a second rinse with white vinegar and I haven't noticed any appreciable diminishment in their performance at all. I've been using mine for several months and during that time have washed them at least once a week.

How do you clean your glass MFs?
