Which Rubbing Compound After Wet Sanding?

I will be painting & clear coating an aftermarket hood very soon along with re-painting my front bumper cover. With every paint job I've done in the past (around a dozen) I've used 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound followed with 3M's Machine Glaze. I've decided that I'm going to open my mind up to something different & I wanted to see what you guys recommend, & what your procedures are? It will be done with a rotary with & I have a variety of buffing pads.

Just a heads up - be careful buffing the plastic bumper cover, they're not as forgiving with heat as metal hoods are. I found out the hard way.

Shoot 3 coats.

Sand 1000 > 1500 > 2000 > *3000 (Meguairs Unit grit)

1. Compound w/wool pad - Meguiars M105 from 600 - 1000 rpm, light pressure...

2. Polish w/foam pad - Meguairs M205 from 600 - 1000 rpm...

3. Finish w/foam pad - 3M Ultrafina from 600 - 1200 rpm...

You'll want to read up on the indivual products. Especially M105 as it seems to work

best when you FULLY saturate the pad with compound and work at lower rpm's.

I'll guess you're using the 3M black waffle pads...
