Which QD to use with UPP?

This is my first post here, new to the forums.

I recently ordered some AIO to use as a base and UPP to top with. This past weekend I did the whole wash/clay/wash/AIO/UPP X2 treatment. The results are fantastic, I couldn't be happier.

My question is, can I use any QD with the UPP, or since it's an acrylic do I have to use a QD formulated to work with Acrylics. I have a ton of just plain old Mcguire QD laying around, and I'd prefer to use it.

Thanks in advance.

You can use any QD you want with it. If you didnt top it I would try and stay away from the ones that contain carnuba other than that its pretty much up to you.

My personal favorites for UPP are UGE and Eagle One Wet Wipe & Shine.

I like Z6 or UGE with UPP depending on what I have on hand. You can get a gallon of UGE from premiumautocare.com for 39.95.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't topped it with anything, nor do I plan to. I love the idea of being able to put on a quick coat whenever I feel like it. I literally can't believe how easy on/off this stuff is.

I'll probably pick up some UGE, $40 for a gallon is nice. For the time being though, I just wanted to verify that QD doesn't contain any carnuba? The last thing I want to do is prevent myself from being able to add more layers of UPP when I feel like it.

There are various QDs out there for various uses. Some QDs do have carnauba in them - and people who use toppers, i.e. PS21, S100, Souveran, etc. would want to use those QDs, i.e. Sonus Carnauba or Pinnacle Crystal Mist, EF CP. Other QDs are used for polymers sealants, i.e. 1Z Lackfinish, Z6, UGE, which do not contain carnauba. QuikShine by ClearKote is another nice QD as well that can be used with almost anything.

I was under the impression that UPP was a polymer sealant and not an acrylic. The only acrylic I know of is Klasse.

$40 a gallon is a lot. My recommendation is some Final Detail or Last Touch as its been renamed. $15 a gallon, no shipping, works great on UPP.

Use UGE, its formulated for the UPP system. I believe AIO leaves an acrylic layer, but UPP is a sealant so I don't think it is Acrylic. :)

SONUS to QD

The K twins, UPP and SONUS are all mor or less from the same acrylic family and are all compatable with each other. SONUS can also be used to repair the smearing you sometimes get when using SG. UPP and SG are layerable interchangably - SG adds gloss and shine and UPP contributes slickness.

I'm in the midst of repolishing my truck and this time I plan on the K twins, at least 3 SG layers, then a couple of UPP and then some Souveran. I may be stuck in a rut, but...........

the shine makes your eyes bleed.

Four Star (UPP) Ultimate Gloss Enhancer can be used as a quick detailer (QD)

~Hope this helps~

Unreal,

Thanks for the PM, but I'm going to post my reply on the board so every one can read it - besides it is too long for a PM.....

My first serious detail was about a 18 months ago, just after I signed up here. I had lurked for a month or so before that however. I had done a lot of reading here, but as every NOOB, I was complete overwhelmed by all the choices available. What turned me on to the Souveran over Klasse was a comment posted on the FlaSVT site was a comment about finishes made by a Lightning owner there about Souveran over Klasse being an awsome combination - it may have even been by NozeBleedSpeed, but I cannot now remember who.

So anyway back to the first detail - I ordered AIO and Soveran among other things in anticipation of the task and was blown away by the finish, on essentailly a truck that had been neglected for its first 18 months. Other members of my Lightning club were equally blown away by the transformation in my truck. My next major detail came at Thanksgiving last year, where I polished out 95 % of all the blemishes then did AIO x 2 then SG x 3. Sometime before that I had ordered UPP to use on my wife's metallic green Buick and was amazed by the look of UPP over AIO (again something I have read about here), so it was logical for me to try the UPP over the SG on the truck. WOW, the slickness and belive it or not the shine of the SG improved, at least to my eye. Since then I have alternated SG and UPP and SONUS over AIO and have had nothing but compliments on my truck, even by the club's show queen's. It must have been an awsome combination to others as well, for when I entered our club's annual charity show this spring, I took first place in the high-milage class. WHOOT! - not bad for my Lightning's second ever show, considering it trohpied at 54K miles being a daily driver (stone chips, scratches that wont buff out, and all) and lives in the dirveway 7, 24, 365 and without a car cover, where the temperature and humidity are both 90+ for 6 months of the year.

My comments posted are my plans to take the truck to the next higher level. I have been so pleased with the AIO and Souveran combination and the AIO, SG and UPP combinations that I now want to combine them (as some here have already done).

One of the major motivations has been the praise on the board about the durability and protection afforded by the K twins (especially given the "living conditions" of my vehicle) as well as the appearance they give. I think the Souveran will add a little extra flash, above and beyond what I've been able to achieve so far.

I am not like some here who jump onto the "new product" band wagon. All that stuff is expensive and doesn't have a proven track record the K twins do. I was lucky in that my research ferreted out some of the best possible products as a "first choice" and I've stuck with them for about 18 months. I've learned how to use them and embellish their individual performances and hopefully learned to make them behave as if 1+1+1 = 4, so to speak.

This my sound like I preaching their use, and maybe I am, but those products work well for me. I gone as much as 6 weeks without washing (due to various factors, including inclement weather and health issues) and as soon as I have gotton around to the wash and dry the shine is still there, in fact the shine burns right through the encrusted grime. There doesn't seem to have been any loss of shine. I can UPP the truck in 2 hours (using a BillNorth variant using the UPP) or hit it with SONUS and every time the shine seems to improve.

Are you a convert now?

Oh yeah, pix .....
