Which LSP for which Colour Paint

Hi, long term lurker, first time poster :dance

I've tried searching through pages (and pages and pages and...) of results, but I can't seem to find specifically the information I'm after.

Is there a general consensus on which wax/sealants look best on different paint colours / types?

e.g. Which have you found looks deepest on black?

Which has the most *pop* for metalic?

Is the a list somewhere? Or can we agree (in sorts) on one? :grinno:

Thanks very much.

Sorry, we really can't agree on anything. :o

You might find one which gets more opinions, but it's all subjective.

Subjective: <modified or affected by personal views, experience, or background>

That was stated for my own good. I misuse subjective and objective from time to time...

IMO, I really like CG 5050 on black. Natty's looks really good on metallics. Again, this is in my own experiences as your may vary. :nana:

Thanks muchly for getting the ball rolling. :wavey

I've done some research, and I've got a small list

Lights: inc. White, Silver, Light Metallics

Dodo Diamond White

Chemical Guys 50/50 Paste Wax

Meguiars #16 Paste Wax

Poorboys EX Sealant

Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze

And I've heard that Signature Series II is one of the best for Silver Metallic..

Red:

P21s Carnauba Wax

Nattys Paste Wax

Er...

Any for Darks?

I really like Collinite for white and silver.

I use P21S for most reds and some darks.

I use Natty's blue, CG5050, or P21S for darks.

Sometimes it just depends on my mood.

I used Z2 over DWG and I rec'd these results:

No issues with the dwg and z2 that I've seen. I emailed bob at danase before buying to be sure I wouldn't run into issues. BTW: bob is very helpful and always answers your questions. I applied dwg, 2xz2, 1xz5 and then z8 to top.

Platinum- Most of the time I don't have color-specific recommendations...but I do find that some products look especially nice on some paints. For dark colors and metallic "pop":

Souveran seems to look very good on everything for me, and is, IMO worth a try on dark colors. I suspect that lbls1 would say the same thing about Vintage, in case you feel like spending a few grand on your LSP.

Meg's #26 is well-known as a good wax for dark colors too, a "darkening/richening" type of look.

The best metallic "pop" I can get is with UPP, but the prep has to be absolutely 100% first, and that can be quite a challenge. Some paints pop with Klasse SG, but oddly enough others don't  I would not recommend BF for this as it darkens the paint too much, but that might make it a nice sealant for dark colors.

For light colors and white: A sealant like Z2. To add some depth, Z5 first, then Z2. Or Ultima PGP. Or Duragloss 105, but I don't find DG quite as durable.

For dark colors, Z or Ultima PGP look good, though it is personal opinion whether it looks 'on top of' the paint, rather than giving it the buttery depth of a carnuba. If its going on a car that won't see pampering, or if to your eye you like the look, I'd go with a sealant like Z or Ultima. Though the Collinite folks would say it holds up.

I thought there'd be diversity... ;)

This is great though, keep em coming! It's fantastic to see the different combinations coming through.

Not to :argue with todd@bsaw but, much as I like Collinite, 476S looked less-than-swell on our silver A8. So much so that I quit using it during the winter in favor of #16 (though I do miss the 476S' durability). Their 845 looks better, but after a few washes it wasn't all that different and the #16 still looked a bit better to my wife and me.

OTOH, the 476S looked great on my pewter Blazer :nixweiss OT*O*OH, 476S seriously muted the flake on my metallic carbon (forget the proper name :o ) DenaliXL so double :nixweiss :nixweiss

IMO/IME Collinite is like KSG in that it looks great on some metallics/silvers but not on others; you won't know until you try it.
