Which is better DACP + PC or Meguiar's Fine Cut + Rotary Buffer?

After reading quite a few threads here I beginning to wonder if the DACP + PC combo might be a better solution than my straight drive + FC combo.

I have a PC that I bought at Lowes. I didn't buy any special kits. I just bought some heavy duty velcro at Wallyworld and applied it with 3m HD spray-on adhesive. I also have the Griot's polishes, but thus far haven't been impressed with them.

So, what's your opinion?

I think with all products, the rotary has more cutting power. The DACP + PC is safer though, and will get out 90% of the problems non-pros face. Unless you have severe paint problems, I would go with the PC and DACP.

What are your trying to achieve? The Fine Cut is more of a compound and the DACP is a cleaner / polish. (I use Medium Cut if DACP doesn't work, then follow with DACP or Speed Glaze).

It's my understanding that DACP is a little more abrasive than FC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but FC doesn't break down into a polishing agent like DACP.

However, since you're using FC with a rotary, you'll be able to achieve the same objective as using the PC with DACP in a much shorter amount of time as far as cleaning goes (not polishing).

I don't know your skill level, but I'd be careful with FC and a rotary IMHO.

Try DACP and the PC first and move your way up to the rotary if you're not satisfied.

Well, I've detailed quite a few vehicles over the past 5 years with the rotary and fine cut combo. I've had pretty good success with, and haven't had any problems with the process. I've just seen so many posts about people using the DACP/PC combo that it piqued my interest.

I just bought an 01' Aurora that I want to spruce up some. The paint job on the whole is actually in good condition. It has some garden-variety swirls with a few problem areas: paint chips and some scratches which will require a bit of work to work out.

Thanks for the input guys. This is a great forum. BTW, I just went out and bought some DACP and swirl remover 2.0 to try with the ol' PC.

The only thing to remember with DACP and PC is you need to try to emulate a rotary in terms of heat so it cleans and breaks down to polish afterwards. I do this by using a "Finger" cutting foam pad and use the PC at a higher speed than normal. Also, use it sparingly as too much you do not get the heat/break down as well.

DACP/PC combo works well for those not having access to a rotary and if used correctly does a great job without the worry of directional marks from a rotary.

After you do the DACP, use the #9 if that's what you got after the DACP, but change to a polish pad. You will be amazed on the level of shine and removal of any swirls or haze left by DACP.

You can even go another step down to Megs HP or other "finishing polish/glaze" and see it now turn into a mirror. I used a grey finish pad and Menzerna FP after all other polishing to get that mirror look. See my SC430 below in my sig and you'll see what I mean.

Hey,

Which is better? That depends on what it is used on.

Meguiar's #2 Fine Cut is designed for use with a rotary only and ideally suited for single stage paint. DACP was designed as part of the Body Shop Series for today's modern Clear Coats, but can be used by rotary, Orbital, DA or even hand.

If the paint is single stage, I would use the #2 with the rotary at 1700 rpm. Follow this with Meguiar's #9 to remove the slight haze that may remain.

If the paint is clear coat, then I would use DACP, still with a rotary though a PC will do.

In terms of strength/aggressiveness: #2 Fine Cut is a 5 whereas DACP is a 6 on the scale of 0-10 with 10 being the most aggressive.

BUT, a rotary with any product will do more work than a PC. As such, DACP will work with the PC but will take a long time to break down properly. But with your comparison, #2 with a rotary will be FAR more aggressive than the PC and the more aggressive DACP.
