Which HD Polish Do I need

I have a 07 Porsche 911 which is black and has some light swirls that you can see when out in the sun. I'll be using the new Griots buffer with probably 3.5 inch pads or 5.5 pads. Do I just need HD Polish or should I get HD Uno? Also, what pads are best? I have the foam pads with the dimples in them, do these work? I have yellow, orange and white, and blue pads. Thanks.

Without seeing your car, I would hate to say that UNO is going to correct your swirls 100%. Its more of a mid range cutting polish. Personally, I would purchase HD CUT to remove the swirls. Yes, it's a pretty stout compound, but if you use a lighter pad (say a orange, if not a white), you'll be able to back down the cut if needed. The marring left after (even on soft Porsche Clear) will only require HD Polish via blue foam to easily remove.

Make sure to constantly clean your pads after each pass. The dimples fill up with dried polish/paint and can cause a loss in cutting power as well as finishing potential.

Another thing you can consider......Not sure what wax/sealant you're going with, but if you're also using an HD sealant like POXY or Nitro Seal, you can replace HD Polish with HD Speed. This (IMHO) will create the absolute best possible finish you can create and will bond perfectly with one another.

If the swirls are light, UNO might do it, but since it's black you will definitely benefit from using a polish afterwards. Personally, I'd buy all three, but if you are on a budget Cut and Speed will get the job done, and in the least amount of steps.

Porsche paint is super nice to work with. From my trial and error with HD Polish and Porsche Paint. I would recomend only HD Polish. If the cars has light swirls. Hd Polish will kick there but and leave the best finish in one step. Good Luck.

Funny i see this post because i was just going to basically ask the same thing. I just finally got my HD samples are trying for 4 weeks with no luck they showed up yesterday :) I used UNU with a yellow waffle pad and my dewalt DA polisher and wow. I used it on my dark blue dodge dakota btw. Then followed with HD polish and a blue and that really made the paint glow. I might try Cut as well on a panel or 2. What im wondering is the type of pads your prefer with the HD products, ie cut and also style. waffle vs non waffle... Im thinking of ordering some of the HD pads. For me and our shop if i add a polish i want basically one pad, one product, one step. To keep it simple for my staff who are not as into the autopia style of detailing as i am. Were high volume so if we polish a used car for our lot it needs to be effective and simple which i think UNO is the ticket. I have Speed as well, how long does that seal the paint for?

Thanks, sorry if i jacked your thread OP ;)

Shane - for high volume/production work I would go with HD CUT and then finish with HD SPEED.

HD will be releasing their new Turkish Natural Lambs Wool pad soon. This is the strongest cutting pad I've yet seen (even better than MF) and leaves an incredible finish. After that, a light polishing pad is all that will be needed. You'll get respectable durabilty and incredible ease of use.

On lighter cars that don't require tons of correction, you can even use HD SPEED with the Lambs Wool pad for the ultimate 1 stepper.

Im surprised thats your high volume recommendation.. seems like the most time consuming/ costly way to prep vs the other 2/3 products... my guys dont touch cars with the polisher right now its just me testing out products and different processes..

I think the idea is that the Cut does the heavy lifting quickly and then the Speed not only refines but also leaves sufficient protection/looks for this sort of work.

Ya i see your point guess it depends on the paint condition. I just did an 06 merc marquis did 4 separate sections on the hood. The 2 best looking were HD Cut with a high cut waffle and my Dewalt Da at 5-6 followed by HD polish and a polish pad on the same DA speed 3-4, and the section i used UNO with a yellow cut and rotary 1800 rpm then HD polish and polish pad on a rotary 2000rpm isn. The clear coat seemed really hard to me couldnt get the results i wanted still. Im going to try and order some of the HD pad vs the waffle ones i have... Not to keen on them. Id like to have an actual 1 pad, 1 machine, 1 compound/ polish, 1 time around the car type thing for most our stuff. Dont have enough time to and my guys are weary of the polishing buffing stuff. ( i have a few mexican guys that work really hard and detail good but they dont quite understand/ get the whole process idea behind what im trying to do polishing and buffing wise ) We mostly just wax our used inventory. I want to offer proper and effective paint correction for our retail side but for our stuff i need super simple, fast, easy, cheap, effective. Uno on the DA With a high cut seems to do pretty good on my dakota so that might be our one step ticket??

Okay, I'm still a little confused. I am planning on giving Nitro a try. If I get Cut or Polish do I still want to use Speed before I use Nitro. Or can I just use Speed and get rid of the Cut?

While I think of those Ford clears as "medium", yeah..if they're really marred up it can take pretty aggressive combos to correct them. Not all *that* surprised that the Cut/Finish pair worked out the best, but I hear you on wanting to one-step this stuff.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna suggest. Might not get the correction up to "Autopian standards", but oughta be fine for, uhm...normal people.

But hey, lots of people here know this product line a whole lot better than I do :nixweiss

Noting again that I'm not the top authority on this line...IMO if you need the Cut to do the correction then you oughta just use it (otherwise you'll end up spending a lot of time/effort trying to do serious correction with too-mild approahces); the Speed wasn't meant to do the same (rather aggressive) correction.

And if I were using NitroSeal I wouldn't use an AIO like Speed beforehand; I'd want to have bare paint, the kind of really well-polished pant that the Polish will leave.

Anybody who knows this stuff better than I do want to comment?

Thanks for the input. I probably dont have anywhere near as much Polish/ buff experience as most of you so a medium ford clear seems hard to me lol
