Which goes first, 476 or 845?

I'll figure it out....
I finally bit the Collinite bug, and got 845 and 476. I plan to

use one or both for my winter routine. But I wanted to know which

should be the base? 476 is meant to be the the more durable, but If

I apply 845 over it, wouldn't it affect 476? Liquid waxes almost always

have a higher solvent content, so would it not make sense to apply it

first, then the paste?
 
Or a couple layers of one or the other. My impression is while still very durable, 845 is the beauty wax of the Collinite line-up.

Ok, that's kinda what I figured. I just wasn't sure if I was doing it right.

Even the folks @ Collinite said the paste should go first, then the liquid,

which did not make sense to me.



Next question. Aside from the Sonus qd (the one for carnuabas), are there

any other qds or wax boosters that I can use with the Collinite waxes?
 
I would agree with Collinite: put the 476 on first and then slap the 845 on top. The 476 would have the durability, the 845 has the looks and is easy to apply/reapply. I think that if you put the 845 down first you woyld only have the looks of the 476. Btw, i've heard that the 476 is particularly good at filling in swirls etc. I have had good results with Meguiars Quikdetailer and QS, search for my thread on WAUQD! :cool:

I was thinking to go that route as well. I already put a coat of the 845 last Monday.

I like that it's a fairly clear looking wax; doesn't seem to darken or mask

the metal flake. But then I started wondering if I made a mistake and should've went

with 476 first. I'm am also thinking of using the waxes on my customer cars, so

having an idea of which to use first would be ideal. Goofing up on my car is

no biggie, but I don't want to look silly when I promise to winterize a customer's paint,

and a few weeks later the cars come back looking I did nothing to them at all (no

beading, etc).

I've used the QuikShine stuff from ClearKote (sp?), Speed Shine from Griot's, EF Clear Pearl, and Pinnacle Crystal Mist.



Maybe the 845 doesn't have the solvents I woulda expected....but I just can't get behind the idea of putting a liquid over a paste :nixweiss



FWIW, a few layers/applications of 476S will see you through winter anyhow, did for me on the Volvo and it was outside 24/7.
 
I would go 476S, then 845. Or you can try both at the same time, one approach for left side, the other for right side and see which one you like better, then come back and report :)
 
Depends on your line of thinking. I used 845IW first without a polish since I only do a total polish once every two years and needed to clean the paint of any residue such as tree sap and tar and stuff since 845IW contain mineral distillates and would remove some of that and I then topped with 476S a couple weeks later for the winter months,
