Which era had the greatest music of all time?!

I would make a poll for this (maybe I will after the current poll runs it course) but until then...

What era/decade/type of music do you guys think is the best?!

For me it comes down to early '90s Alternative Rock (really a rebirth of punk music) where the musicans (such as a Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain) took music back from the music companies and late '60s era Pyscedellic Rock, brough to popular attention by The Beetles "Sgt. Peppers" but really a spin off underground bands like pre-Gilmour Pink Floyd.

Ultimately for me, perhaps due to my age, I would go with early 90's Alternative. It was culmination of music due the influences of the unique bands: Beetles, Zepplin, The Who, Violent Fems, Black Flags, rolled into one unique era of music that was simply about real music with real messages.

when you like a lot of different music, that's a tough one. i was pretty young in the fifties and missed a lot of that music growing up. going back to it now makes me really appreciate the sounds of the fifties & sixties.

I agree with Todd, but also love the old classic rock. Im a 90s kid and always will be. It doesnt get much better than Radiohead's Creep. Im also big into the heavier stuff and modern hard rock. Seeing Slipknot at Ozzfest 99 changed my whole perception on what metal was and could be. All time fav though is Guns N Roses followed closely by Pantera.
 
80's hair bands for me, but I like the early 90's stuff too. I think the results are going to be similar with a lot of age groups so maybe we should put are age up as well. :rockon

For me the ones that are most memorable are:

Bon Jovi
Poison
Motley Crue
Guns N' Roses
Nirvana
 
If I had to pick only one era, it would be the 70's for the classic rock. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, etc.. there's no other decade/era that can compete with that. Funny thing is, it's before my time, I grew up in the 80's, but I would still pick the 70's. I distant second would be the 80's and all the one hit wonders, for nostalgic reasons.
 
I don't know that I could pick an era. I grew up on classic rock because that is what my parents listened to. To this day I am still a huge fan of Pink Floyd, Zepp, Sabath etc. I was in high school for the grunge era. I love Pearl Jam's Ten and anything with Chris Cornell. I have been a G'n'R, Metallica and Godsmack fan for years. I like the new stuff as well like Shinedown, Chevelle and Foo Fighters.

Now if you want to talk about most influential, I'd say the early '70s hands down. That is when the biggest change in music happened and the influence is obvious even in today's music.

The late 60's and all of the 70's in my opinion are the best. I love tons of music and I definitely have songs from probably every year that I think are very good, but I keep going back to the 70's for memories.

This list is considered to be the most accurate ever recorded because of the way it was voted on and over 60% of the songs are from the 60's and 70's

I think it is an unfair to use memories as a gauge to measure music. That will always cause older music to weigh heavier because memories from when we were young tend to stand out more in our minds.
 
Oh, I used to be all into Offspring, green day, nirvana, bush, foo fighters, STP, deftones, smashing pumpkins, blur, Nofx, Pennywise, Sublime, Static X, Powerman 5000... There was definitely something different about it then... But now that I'm older I like a little hip hop, some reggae, sometimes I'll get crazy with some techno. We went down to Ultra fest in Miami one year and had a blast. But yeah, I can pretty much listen to anything except country...
 
I think it will will Always be the music you grew up listening to starting in yur early teens through early adult hood. For me at least.

This is my kind of music. Easy to understand the words. Didn't have to worry about the language. I was into beach music and Motown and good blues or soul. I'm still listening to these via xm and mp3 with just a little bit of Jimmy Buffet and some country thrown in to the mix. Not much into hard rock or rap. If any of you old timers like the early do wop style you may want to check out Kenny Vance and the Planatones. Kenny used to be with Jay and the Americans and still does shows up and down the east cost. Saw him last month up in Wilkes Barre Pa. along with the drifters and 8-9 other groups. Great show if thats your kind of music. :bigups
 
Glenn Miller Orchestra 1956-today. 60's & 70's rock. Big Band Era 1920's - 30's.

I like lots of different music.
 
From a listening standpoint, I'll take late 60s through the 70s.

Love that classic rock. From a playing standpoint, I'll take the big bands/stage bands of the late 30s to the early 60s - now THAT'S music.
