I just picked up a Canon S230 from Dell for $325 shipped. It's a great little camera that takes much better pictures than I imagined. Its a 3 mega pixel with a Li Ion battery, super small and easy to use. The pictures are very detailed with great color saturation and not a lot of negative digital artifacts. Has a decent flash and an auto focus assist lamp. All in all a lot of features and great pictures for a denent price.
The only down sides are it doesn't have full manual controls,(but you can force most of the settings with ISO and EV controls), it only has a 2x optical zoom (plus a 3x digital zoom for total of 6x), and the macro function leaves something to be desired under 1 foot.
For compaison, I have a 5 MPixel Sony F707 at work and while it has more features, a 10x optical zoom, a Carl Zeiss lens and the swivel lens is nice, the pictures are not that much better to justify the 3x expense.
Sure you can find cheaper cameras and you can also find more features in a camera. In my overly biased opinion, the cannon S230 was just the right combination of features and value for me.
