Which DA Should I get?

I have a three year old PC that is getting a bit tired. Looking at a new XP, the Griots Polisher, and the Meg's Machine. I prefer 4 or 5.25 inch pads. Which machine would you suggest?

My personal pick was the G110v2. A lot of people claim it's a "weak machine" but I've found that even when bearing down hard on it (more than you ever really would or should have to under normal circumstances -- I was intentionally being heavy-handed for demonstration purposes by shifting a lot of my weight onto the machine), the pad will still rotate at least somewhat:

With my old PC (G100), I could literally stall the pad to the point where that piece of tape on the backing plate would be stationary.

order the GG6 directly from Griots (free shipping right now) and if you don't like it, you have within 180 days to return it for a refund or credit....

I'd go with either the G110v2 or the GGDA. I have the PC7424, PCXP, and two GGDA's so that I can alternate them while the other is being sent in for warranty repairs. The GGDA has great power but I question their built quality big time. Currently unit number two is being held together with Epoxy and Duct Tape and the bearing is on it's last legs, which is only a couple months old....and I only detail part time. My original PC7424 is still going strong after 5+ years of abuse but they both lack power compared to the GGDA.

I'll be at Meguiar's next Thursday and I plan to try out the G110v2 and see how it compares to the rest of them. I used the original G110 about a year ago and it had a very solid construction.

My first PC XP broke after 4 cars, got a replacement and wasn't really happy with it. Really I only use it for LSP application which is rare, or when I use Menzerna PO85RD. I did try it with the Meg's MF system, that lasted one panel... Received a GGDA for Christmas and love it! I plan to buy another to have on hand should something happen to it. I've used it on 7 cars since January (part-timer) with no complaints. I still find myself wanting to try the Meg's G110V2 as well.

Please let us know your thoughts Rasky!

Can you GG users chime in for a second.

I have been asking alot of people for feedback on the GG which I ordered a few of to use. I feel like I may either be a hulk or that I had too high of expectations for the GG as I am a PCXP user(and killer).

My question is in related to bogging and the PCXP v GG. I feel like in reading on all the forums that speeds 4-6 are simply un boggable. I read that alot of people dont really feel the need for speed 6, and while I am using the GG on speeds 4 through 6, I am not sure how much more power my DAs should have in comparison to the PCXP(my control).

Can someone shed some light on it. Maybe a speed to speed comparison with X amount of pressure between the 2? Or am I just a pressure monster?

Sorry, I don't have a test like that....

How easy it is to stop the rotation will obviously vary depending on what pad your using, but it's still a night and day difference between the PCXP and the GG6. On speed 4 with a MF pad it doesn't take much to stop the rotation on the PCXP, where as the GG6 takes more pressure then you really need to use 95% of the time. On speed 6 or even 5 with a GG6 and a 5" MF pad you'd probably have to sit on it to stop it from rotating. :)

Speed 6 on the GG6 is too much power for most pads IMO and I've melted some foam LC's after only a panel or two on that setting.

Mike, judging from what you told me before, I think you're just a beast! I agree 100% with Chad, the GG is quite noticeably stronger, torquier, ballsier, etc. than the XP and 110. Anything over 4.5-5 on the GG is overkill, while even at speed 6 on the XP, it was fairly easy to bog that thing down.

Huh...I still do almost all my polishing at 6 with the GG, except when using smaller pads

I'm now the proud owner of a GG so I can experience it for myself. Can I put my PC backing plate for small pads on the GG just like how I change plates on the PC?

Yep, and it can do some pretty serious spot-correction that way, so go a little easy ;)

I had to read that 4 times because I was too busy staring at my cannons. :D

Hmmm I feel like speed 6 is just right on the GG, but maybe I am a pressure addict? I completely agree but then again I think I use a TON of pressure on any DA polisher but I could bog a PC with my looonggg arms outstretched using 1 hand, but I think many could do that.

I think most people are melting LC pads because sometimes LC pads melt. Even with all the high speed, high pressure polishing even in the direct sun on a black car in July, I have never melted backing material.

Sounds like me and Accumulator are monsters

Just out of curiosity check you power. I know there is one outlet in my garage that doesnt sent enough power to the machine making it not run properly. I will be polishing it on speed 4 and able to slow it down to almost a stall and then the next second the full blast of power comes back and I would have to stand on it like Rasky said.
