1 vote for silver from me :O -- just looks...classier...

Since its light coloured like your white -- you could reuse all your AIO, UPP etc. for it as well! :O

Im not a slilver fan but on that car silver looks best to me. In red to looks smaller than it should and in blue it loses some style IMO.

Plus silver is Easy to keep looking great....

hey Paul, I would go with silver; it's a great color on the protege and a fun color to detail....good choice on the car (very solid machine).

I'm surprised at the lack of votes for blue.

Does anyone have a certain reason for not picking blue? Is it the actual color, or is it the car styling???

More the styling. The Protege in blue would be a real "stealth" vehicle, probably too much so. IMO that car in that color just disappears, nobody would notice it. Makes it "just a little car", to me at least. I see them in blue all the time and while it's nice paint I'm just not impressed with how the car looks with it.

I do like how the silver paint on our MPV looks; I was thinking about your choices when I washed it yesterday. Lots of different combos would look great on it and it's pretty nice clear too. Not so soft that you'll mar it easily but not too hard to correct either. Chips don't look all that bad on that color either (or at least that's what I tell myself :D ).

Let's see...put snows on the OE wheels, get a nice set of mags...see about the grill...that could be a lot of fun for the money.

That's good news about the clear. I'm sure a few chips would pop up over the summer with all the commuting I'll be doing.

I will put snows on the OEM wheels, and if I can find those wheels that are in that pic, I will try to get those. Otherwise I'll end up just buying a spare set of the OEM 15s. I looked on Ebay and there was a set for pretty cheap.

BTW I found a 5spd 2000 ES not too far from here. I'm going to drive it on Saturday if it's still available at that time...just to make sure I like it.

Man, I'd sure save up and get the larger wheels, but that's just me ;) Plenty of time to think it over while you wear out the tires it comes with.

Yeah, do a good test-drive and make *sure* you like it. Plenty of cars that I was *certain* I'd love were pretty disappointing when I actually drove them.

From the responses of others, I'm pretty confident I'll like the car. There are several things I want, and I think the Protege meets all of the requirements...

Fun to drive

Good gas mileage

Stylish

Even the ConsumerGuide review stated that the Protege is designed more for handling and a fun-to-drive nature than the competitors like the Corolla, Civic, and Prism.

i like the black, but i think because it's the only one with a nicer grill.

also mazda did the mp3 and turbo'd proteges, which had more performance oriented suspension and other parts, so there should be performance parts for the protege in the event you want to change out the suspension, exhaust, etc.

but than again, mazda is more performance oriented than the other japanese companies. who else has a "zoom zoom zoom" company slogan? :D

Yeah there is a good deal of aftermarket support for the Proteges.

In response to your pic of black due to the grill, I will be swapping in the 2K1+ grill since I definitely like it better.

As far as mods that I'm actually planning...

Extra set of wheels for summer tires (BFGoodrich G-Force Sport)

Snow tires on OE wheels (Pirelli Winter 210 Snowsport or Michelin X-Ice) - I need snow tires that are also decent on dry roads, where the Pirellis seem to excel according to the reviews.

Tint = 20%

Grill swap

Intake (not sure about short ram vs CAI)

Front Strut Tower Brace

Paint brake calipers silver

I'm thinking about a custom plate as well...like ZM ZOOM or something.

And I almost forgot! SSR2.5, #80, AIO, UPP, and Paste Glaz! :woot:

i think any of the colors would be nice with the 2K1 grill, not having the chrome makes it look cleaner.

and how about ZOOM x3? :D

btw, i guess you haven't found any mp3 proteges? i think they had a bunch of aftermarket stuff on them, like racing hart wheels, some exhaust, maybe even a strut tower brace and suspension. oh plus the kenwood mp3 player that looked nice but was hard to operate because of its tiny buttons.

I have to wonder how many people picked the black one just because of the newer front end styling.

I would have thought black would have been farther behind the leading choice, since it's so hard to keep up with.

I personally think the black one *looks* the coolest (not just cause of the front end), but I am biased as I currently have black one. I dont know, I think when a black car is done right, nothing else can touch it. I dont care what color, IMO when a black car is impeccably detailed, nothing else is close. It blows the doors off of everybody else. Just my opinion, and like I said, I'm biased, I have a black car :D

Probably very few. The only difference I see is the grille and even that is only a minor badge change.

i did. oops. :o well, black is a really nice color when properly detailed. ;)

i just noticed the first silver one has the newer grill too, and IMO, that new grill looks WAY better than the old chrome one with dinky mazda badge. the newer grill seems to me to be more sporty.

Yes I noticed that yesterday. You can see how it would look after the grill swap on the silver car.

You mean ZOOM x2? The slogan is "ZOOM ZOOM". :)

No I haven't found any MP3s for sale. I probably wouldn't be able to afford one anyway. If I had the money, I'd get a Mazdaspeed Protege, but of course I definitely don't have the money for one of those.

I could buy the factory parts for the MP3/Mazdaspeed Protege, but I found that those things are way more expensive than just getting a generic one off of Ebay. The strut tower brace for the Mazdaspeed Protege from a factory supplier was over $150, while the strut braces on Ebay cost anywhere from $10 - $50.

Silver would be my first choice, followed by red. I wouldn't get blue or black unless you have the time to keep up with the paint.
