Which Collinite do you/would you use?

I am almost out of 845. Thinking about maybe trying 476 or 915. However, I find 845 easy to use, look is pretty good (a little bright), and it lasts.

Do either of the others stack up to, or are they better? Biggest concern is durability and ease of use.

Car is a medium grey, FYI.

915 is a nice quality wax. Very durable, and fairly easy to use, but you have a short window between applying and buffing out. If you let it sit too long, or cake it on too thick it can be difficult.

I agree with John. 915 isn't as user friendly as 845 IW. But it will last a very long time, and for a darker color like your medium gray, I think it would probably look better than 845.

Grey Porsche Cayman. With an Audi Q5 next to it.

This Porsche was detailed many times over a 1 yr period and each time, with different combos.

Most medium grey colours generally do not hv lots of reflections to begin with and it's a pretty sombre colour (ooops...sorry,dude..just my opinion). My personal strategy for such a mundane colour is to boost reflectiveness without darkening the colour any further.

1. Extensive surface prep.

2. BFWD x 2 or Zaino Z2Pro for reflectiveness.

3. Any Collinite Wax - for durability. I like the user-friendly 845 and I feel it does not darken the colour.

4. QD it regularly.

I would also stick with the 845 as it's pretty unique and as others have said, really easy to use. If you're going to make the change from 845, look further than the Collinite's line as well. For ease of use, I've always liked Poorboy's stuff too. I just love 845, I don't use it too much anymore but it's truly great.

I'm interested in this as well. I currently use 845 on a charcoal gray 4runner. It doesnt seem to dark the finish any, it just gives it a very "glassy" appearance if that makes sense. I'm very happy with 845, but since i'm about to run out of it i've been considering trying the 915 or 476 next.

I've been using 845 for 30+ years. 915 is sitting on the shelf next to the barely touched tin of 476. I've tried numerous sealants and waxes over the years and still end up coming back to 845 for it's ease of use, longevity, dirt-shedding and bright glossy finish. The ease of use prompts me to reapply more often than actually needed but which results in an always-fresh-waxed look. When shaken and thinned about as much as it gets it's handy and quick to spray on a light coat and buff off. You won't get that with a paste. My DDs have been light or white for years and I like the look of 845 on 'em. On darker colors I occasionally apply 915 for a deeper, wetter look. Those applications, while not really difficult, serve to highlight 845s incredible ease of use.

Best bang for the buck around, IMO.

30 years?! That's cool.

Cool bordering on 'old coot'...

Heh heh, welcome to the club :D The young 'uns around here sometimes make me feel ancient and I'm not *that* old (dammit!).

Cool that you've been happy with 845 for so long. I was still kinda a wax-snob back then, the people in my area who used 845 were, uhm...not the sort of people I gave credence to, even though it was actually well-deserved and I shoulda listened to them. Live and learn...

Another old coot here been detailing since about 1960 ..... as far as the 845 goes I gave it the collage try for close to a year on a bunch of customers cars and found around here it didn't outlast either megs #21 or Duragloss # 105 abet the 845 is easy to use and does look good.

DG 105 is another good one...might be another option for me, good call. Yep, 845 is about as solid and easy as they come. Can be used on car, wheels, and the boat.

i own 845 915 and 476....oddly enough, 845 is the one that I haven't tried...(go figure hahaha)

the 476... I mean I had a hiccup once with dead beading (still haven't been able to resolve on account of me recovering from shoulder surgery and studying for my cpa but I think it's just dirt) but either way my BMW's been giving me hell at every turn; I suspect that the car, which was the dealerships managers car took a beating from their "detailers"...

OVERALL though... I put 915 down on my silver lexus... 915.......it's umm... it's really nice stuff~!

476 is definitely super great... I mean, the only thing that annoys me really is the fact that it's in that tin...but I figure just keep a small CLEAN putty knife handy and use that to apply it onto the pads (I'm somewhat anal about getting contaminants INTO the tin...)

both 476 and 915 when i used the putty knife method it kind of steers me away from over applying because I use the knife to scrape off excess so it's harder to put on too much.

it's been i think 2 months now since i put it down on the lexus... and well... it's a DD in NYC...might as well put a superman sticker on the tins because it's darn near bulletproof

My killer combo to date is

1 coat klasse aio

1 coat klassi SG

2 coats 476.

The reflection on my cherry pearl ridgeline & dark charcoal kia optima is dazzling.

By the way...finding this site 2 years ago really messed me up as I thought nu-finish was da bomb!!!!

Heh heh, you're helping me feel younger :D

And yeah, it's funny how 845 does/doesn't last for some people (or rather, in some situations). When I tested it (pretty carefully, resonable controls, etc.) it wasn't anything special, but it's holding up *GREAT* on my beater-Audi. Different vehciles, but identical prep/care/etc. :nixweiss
