which clay bar?

I bought a new car and it looks to have rail dust on the hood bumper and trunk. I have a meguiars clay bar kit but it hasnt seemed to work very well. Anyone have a suggestion on another clay bar to try?

AeroCleanse- FWIW I've had *much* better luck with acidic decontamination than I have with clay (for this particular issue). You know I *LOVE* clay, but every so often I'd have recurrances of the rust-blooms when I used clay to remove ferrous contamination. Since switching to the decon stuff, no more of that. Guess it's a matter of degree...like how embedded the contamination is, but I gotta say I was both surprised and impressed by how well such stuff works. If you ever get a nasty case of this, I'd be interested to hear what you think of the decon approach.

Clay *does* still do the job once I have things all LSPed/etc. though, it appears the contamination gets stuck in the LSP (as opposed to the paint) so a gentle claying takes care of *those* rust-blooms just fine. So I usually only use the decon stuff for first-time/clean-slate jobs.

Where is the best place to get [Car Pro Iron X]?

That reminds me, I gotta order some for myself! Wanna compare it with "B", which a) isn't quite as strong as I'd like and b) has no indicator like the Iron X's purple stuff.

You can get both Iron X and the Valugard wash from Detailers Domain.

IMO using the "A" and Iron X would be a good approach, glad they have 'em both for one-stop shopping.

Accumulator - I mean I prefer Elastafoam to clay. I save the real clay for the windows. I've used Iron X before on really bad cars. Now they have the Iron X soap, I might look into that next time.

Clay only gets the top contaminent soff then it blooms back up again hence the ABC steps are for this but go by instrustions on this for sure.

Ah, OK...never tried the Elastafoam but I get where you're coming from. I just ordered the "gel soap" Iron X, plan to use it next time I decon something.

I think it's my area, and all the silver cars I buy, that makes the decon stuff so necessary for me. Gee, how did we ever get by before we had all these miracle products ;)

Is anything else to be done to the paint after using this stuff?

Wash the car with a pretty strong regular shampoo mix to get all the acidic stuff off and rinse rinse rinse.... you should be fine. If you're *really* worried about it you could redo the alkaline step, but I sure don't think it's necessary.

So recommend iron x spray or soap gel?

I can't really say as I've never used either one. But I just didn't like the idea of the spray for this step and thought I'd have better control with the gel. Eh, that's just me and I'm used to not spraying the AutoInt/ValuGard "B" that I normally use for this. Ask somebody else and they'll say to go spray, just a personal preference.

Part of my take is that I think in terms of the Audis; with all their aluminum trim, which I DO NOT want to get a lot of acid on, I'm all about controlled application. I end up thinking that way even on vehicles where there are no such concerns.
