can someone explain carnuba to me.....I have heard it has SPF like characteristics like sunscreen for the skin....true or not????

also what makes it better than say meguiars gold class or NXT or other waxes that people like carnuba better for.....

and also, if you only had one carnuba wax in your arsenal, which one would it be....and why....

what kinda of paints would you apply a carnuba on....dark colors, light colors, paint that has to be restored, paint that is in perfect condition????

thanks

carnauba comes from palm trees (i think it's palm trees iirc). it's the waxy coating on the frons that repel water.

Carnauba's are known for the depth and wetness that they give to paint. Synthetics can't match the looks of a good carnauba wax.

I like nuba's on darker colors.

Neothin has the scoop.

My favorite nuba is P21S. I have many different nubas. Tested four this winter. P21S had all the characteristics that I admire. JMHO!

Yes P21S is my favorite nube and I get it at my local harly dealer. Nubas look best on dark colors and synthetics look best on light colors. Again everybody is different so get some P21S and try it for yourself. It is easy on and easy off.

Some waxes do contain UV-protection agents, but the amount of protection that a microscopically thin layer of wax can provide is limited

The primary goal of a wax is to protect the top layers of paint that contain UV-protection agents from the paint manufacture. If you wash and wax your car regularly, your paint will be protected and you should suffer no major UV damage over the normal course of the life of the car.

Don't be fooled by some companies that lead you to believe that it is the UV protection in a wax that protects your car's finish from fading and failure, this is dishonest and simply not true. Taking care of the paint you presently have will go further to protect your finish than relying on protection supplied by a liquid you pour out of a bottle, or a wax you scoop out of a can. UV protection in a car wax formula is only an extra-dose of preventative maintenance, not the end-all, cure-all that some companies would lead you to believe.

UV protection for paint is much different from UV blocking ingredients for human skin. The two formulas are nothing alike and work in drastically different ways. There is no correlation between the ratings applied to the different levels of sun blocking protection for products intended for use on human skin and the ingredients available for use in an automotive wax formula. Sad to say, much of what you see advertised about the protective qualities of most car care products on the market today is simply over-exaggerated hype used to separate you from your hard earned dollars.

like some already said, carnauba looks great on dark colors. This has to do with a more athstetic principle. What many detailers, and enthusiasts try to accomplish is a sense of 'depth' like the surface of your car is a pool of water, and 'clarity' of images reflected. Carnauba does this very well, especially when you layer it. Acrylics or polymer synthetic waxes tend to be more 'shiny' then accomplishing the depth. This is probably why lighter colors generally have the sealant recommendation as opposed to carnauba since it's harder to see depth in a lighter color. Regardless, you can put whatever you want on whatever you want. It's all really a matter of preference. I'll put Souveran on white since I like how it looks anyway.

and also, if you only had one carnuba wax in your arsenal, which one would it be....and why....

Pinnacle's Souveran. Expensive as heck, but worth it.

You can put wax on anything, and it will instantly improve the surface. However, keep in mind that waxing is only a temporary thing. After a few months, oxidation will resurface, scratches will be noticeable once again, swirls will rear their ugly heads. The best thing to do though is to prep the surface, and making sure you take the time to do it right. This involves claying the fallout and surface contaminants. Polishing out swirls, small scratches, and oxidation. This will result in the best end result since any kind of wax is best over a near-perfect surface.
