I use internet Explorer now and am getting a lot of pop-up that i can't seem to stop through them..I'm thinking of Netscape..is this any better or is there another better browser to use?
thanks:)

Steve, maybe you could go somewhere like Download.com and try out some different browsers and see what you like best. There's a lot out there, and they all have different goo/bad aspects. I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions on this one. Hope you can find one you like!!

Good suggestion, Jared! :bigups

FWIW, I've been using Mozilla 1.7.2 for some time and I like it because it does a good job of stopping the annoying "pop-ups", and you can have multiple tabs open in one window. And, if I accidentally try to close the window instead of a tab - it warns me, and I can avoid that inconvenience.

Only downside I have found so far, is that I cannot check my Medical Insurance claims on it, so still must use IE for that :(

Just my $ .02

trying firefox right now ..it was recommended by a computer friend:D

so far no pop-ups:bigups and i can type a response without being annoyed:angry

thanks for all the help and if this one doesn't work ..then on to another:)

Another suggestion would be to continue using IE, but install some type of pop-up blocker. Many anti-virus packages come bundled with pop-up blockers. For freeware, try something like the Google Toolbar or Panicware's Pop-Up Stopper.

poorboy:

changing browsers is an option but there are other very effective solutions with many pop-up blockers available.

If you're using Windows XP, upgrade to SP2 & you'll get built-in pop-up blocking from the Windows OS along with a very effective firewall. You'll get a message that a pop-up has been blocked & you can choose whether or not you want to see it. I get no pop-ups ..... zero.

Many ISP's (AOL, MSN, etc ....) include some form of pop-up blocking with varying results & effectiveness.

Many anti-virus products (I use Trend Micro's PCcillin, #1 rated in Consumer Reports) include pop-up blocking.

I strongly suggest checking into the following freeware available from majorgeeks.com : Spybot Search and Destroy rel 1.3
AdAware Personal rel 1.5

Both of these products will eliminate spyware from inhabiting your PC & slowing it down ... they work great, they're easy to use, and they're free.

actually I'm still running Windows98:( but I'm getting a new computer from my friends at FedEx:) ...
I tried the google tool bar, the adware, the spybot, and none of them worked..even tried the Trend pc house call and there was stuff it even couldn't remove:bigscream ...so far with firefox it is a little differentthan I'm use to but a big :bigups so far...

Safari (Apple brand browser) blocks pop-ups, but so far I haven't figured any way to "preview" link addresses like on IE. Also it doesn't seem to like Flash sites. No pop-ups, though!

It takes some getting used to but you won't regret it once you get used to it. Tabbed browsing is awesome!

Also, you won't get any spyware crap. Ever since using Firefox my adware has not picked up anything. When using IE i had to clean it out once a day and it would find all sorts of crappola.

I have to agree with the vote's for Firefox.
I tried it as a test a few month's back and have never left.
Microsoft couldn't pay me to go back ( well, how much?? )
The features alone on Firefox are worth the switch.
But, the pop up and adware blocks are also better.

Well it's been a day and a half with no pop-ups...this is surely a miracle :bigups

I can't tell you how great it is to be able to complete a thought without an advertisement for a pop-up blocker interupting my thoughts:lol

Oh, we know, Steve, we know!! That's why we're "all" using various methods to block the insidious things!!!;)
Glad you're enjoying it though! Have you mastered "multiple tabs" yet?
