Where is al gore when we need him

CharlesW, here is a site that might enlighten you :)
World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

They do make a distinction between climate and weather.

The global warming topic seems to be another topic that you either believe, or you don't. Probably not likely that those who have already made up their mind will be swayed to take the opposite position.
I bookmarked the page to read in its entirety at a later date.
Global warming and the distinction between climate and weather might be a hard sell to the people in Minnesota with -26 and the people in South Dakota at -42. :D
I don't have an opinion on the global warming thing yet, partly because of the many factors that have caused climate changes for thousands of years.
One thing I definitely do believe is the way we are destroying the earth with our pollution. We have been doing that for centuries as well. When we didn't know any better, that ignorance was an excuse. Today, we know better so what is our present excuse?

Crap, here I am in the middle of a discussion that has absolutely nothing to do with detailing! :wall
Might just as well be talking about carrying a gun whenever you go out. :)

CharlesW, there is a lot to read there. If you manage to read it all, you might just give the rest of us the Cliff Notes version. :D

Here is a link that is a bit shorter:

Agreed! I've been interested since the late '60s. Organized a group to pick up litter in a municipal (natural) park and some of the roadways leading to it. Through the years I always tried to pick up litter when I camped, hunted/fished, water skied, etc. I still work to do what I can. I compost, recycle, and still don't litter. Small steps, but better than nothing at all.

I have done the same thing as a citizen of the planet. In the 70's I even had some green and white striped "ecology jeans!" I do not believe in the hysteria of global warming. I do believe in climate change as that has happened since the beginning of the Earth! There is an agenda in the media and with the folks that hype global warming. It is called MONEY. I do not think that with the limited data we have that ANY scientist or layman can predict the doomsday that we are hearing. So I can end my small rant, I just want to say we should all be aware of the impact we have on this wonderful planet we call home. Every little thing we do helps to leave a better place that my kids and grandkid will call home long after we are gone. Do something positive in your life that helps others. Adopt a kid, give money to a worthwhile charity or buy a homeless person a meal! This is not a politically motivated speech but one that I hope will inspire others to be the best they can.

dave40co, I agree that hysteria doesn't help, but I have no problem with having a sense of urgency in getting a message out that we need to change some things that we do that cause problems with the air/water/soil. Since we can't really replace these we need to make sure that what we have is usable far past the time when I stop breathing. Don't run with that stick in your hands, you only have two eyes. :D

OK. I am blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. Besides that, what do you mean! Because I have a different opinion then you does not make me wrong and you right! Or vice versa. If you read the whole post you will see I am not doubting or flaming you for what you believe. I have always recycled etc...... The only answer for future generations is to leave the Earth a better and cleaner place. Global warming and climate change or the coming 'Ice Age' are just not a reason for me to do the things I do for the environment.

dave40co, I'm not sure what got you fired up. My post didn't have anything to do about who's right and who's wrong. I thought I said I agreed with you about the "hysteria". Everything after that was just opining about non-renewable resources and the need to protect them.

Sorry, my bad. How I read the post made me interpret it the wrong way? Maybe the stick comment!

Non-renewable resources...your eyes...you only have two...don't run with that stick, you'll put an eye out.
I still don't understand the confusion.

Ok, I'm a little slow sometimes and that must be a local saying as I have never heard it before.
Wow! Thought that phrase was universal! I can't even count how many times I heard that as a kid. I think I can still hear my Grandma saying it today (what I wouldn't give to hear her say it right now). Anyway, yeah, it must be a Texas thing. Anyway, if you hadn't heard it before, you heard it here first. Don't run with that stick in your hand, you'll put an eye out!!! :)

Global climate change will cause redistribution of precipitation, resulting in more extreme droughts and more extreme flooding.

Therefore half of us will be greatly interested in rinseless car washes, and half of us will want to know how to clean out a flooded car.
