I don't think we've ever been great or good. This country is really young I mean lets look at the beginning. We came over here, killed off a bunch of the natives, Then realized we don't want to pay for labor so we shipped in new ones. Then brought Jesus in like a bar of soap. Then we still didn't like the natives and said hey you don't like Jesus and we want your stuff. So why don't you pack it up and we'll kill you with diseases if you don't. Then fast forward as that fallout eventually settled. there was the rioting and the hatred for the Black people whom are ancestors of the ones we shipped in and started a civil war for, lynching and all sorts of terrible things. And we seem to like to nettle with other people's affairs only if it benefits us though. So we invade for political agenda's and corporations benefits and then leave them still with a torn up society but at least we pressed our democracy onto them and left a bunch of weapons. I mean really in my opinion we've never been great. No country has really ever started with a clean slate it seems. Everyone is guilty of some sort of form of exploitation of the weak. It's just the way our world is.

Ok, if "we've" never been great - who has?

Based on his post, the answer would be nobody. Unfortunately humans have been doing crappy things to other humans since the dawn of time and that will never end

Compare that history to any other nation that made any significant contribution to civilization and you'll find we're a lot better than you think.

I agree There are many good things In the world. And great people. America isn't horrid, Nor is the UK, or any other big player. I'm just saying we've all done some pretty terrible things. You can't erase the past. But when the issues never fully get resolved and we can't work together to form a truly beneficial system and greed takes over consistently then I don't think it'll ever be great. I am fortunate enough to not have been born and raised in a part of the world where I have been exploited. But I have seen it happen by big name corporations. I think to be truly a good society or in the more simple of terms "best of times" or "the good days" then there needs to be changes. Put technical, medical, scientific, ans social advancements first and yourself second. But it's never going to happen. However we have come a long way and I do believe we are getting better. The question was when were the good days? I don't think they have happened yet on a big scale.

I thought the OP meant "good old days" for one personally.
That's why I answered '60 to '70.
Not a great decade for many but a wonderful time for me.
Ever since puberty it's been downhill.

I went 50s. It was before my time, but the music. The cars. The "neato" long skirts. The sock hops. No stupid smog laws. A time when people would work for the same company til retirement. Ahhh the music. Do-wops all day long

I swear, I didn't just watch American Graffitti

Haha! Well in that case I am living them. Own one of my favorite cars, finishing up my Education, have an awesome family. Not to say everything is perfect but things are good.

Anything prior to MTV stopping 24 hour music videos and introducing us into the narcissistic world we now call "reality TV"

LOL, Anthony! I guess there's a whole generation out there that doesn't understand MTV stood for "Music Television", and doesn't realize that video killed the radio star...
