When to apply glaze?

I will be detailing a black 911 today. I plan on possibly claying the car and then I will be removing the swirls using either the Poorboys SSR line, Optimum Compound or Menzerna Intensive Polish. I plan on doing the final polishing with either 3M's Finishing Material, Menzerna Final Polish II or Poorboys SSR 1. Would the SSR 1 be considered a finishing polish? Next will be a coat of AIO, followed by a layer of SG. Does this sound like a good plan? I want the shiniest and deepest look possible. The owner of this car (my brother-in-law) will be showing it to potential customers of mine when I am finished with it, so I want it to look the best.

Also, I have some 3M Imperial Hand Glaze that I purchased maybe 3 years ago that I don't think I ever even used. Do you think it would be a good idea to apply this? If so, after which product would be the proper one to apply it after? I would think it would be after applyin the AIO, correct?

One more thing... I want to apply a coat of S100 over the SG, but won't be able to wait 24 hrs. Do you think it will be okay to apply it 12 hours after the application of the SG?

I would either skip the AO1 or replace it with SSR1. I probably would use SSR1 and the go to the glaze and then top that.

Hi,

Be careful...... if you apply a glaze after AIO step then Klasse SG will not bond. Klasse SG needs to be applied over AIO. If you want to use a glaze consider another sealant (or maybe even Megs NXT). If you are doing the all the steps described I do not think you will need a glaze. I would suggest.

Wash->clay->polish->AIO->SG->S100

Or if you want to use a glaze

Wash->clay->polish->AIO->Glaze->NXT->S100

Cheers

agree..... Be sure to apply that GLAZE! Makes a big difference. Or Meg. 3 or 5 will work also.

If you go the AIO/SG route, I would save the 3M for another day. Ive never used the 3M IHG, but the other glazes ( VM,RMG etc) have oils that will cause bonding issues with the SG.

Yeah, gotta watch that you a) choose the right products for the job (think "end result") and b) choose products that are compatible.

Unless you're certain that you can get eliminate any marring, I wouldn't use the KSG. And IMO the glaze/carnauba often looks better on black anyhow.

Since you're gonna be judged by how this car looks, I'd consider hiding flaws to be an acceptable approach- it's all about what makes the car look the best. See if you can really eliminate them and make your decision then.

The IHG and the Klasse approach are not compatible. Choose one or the other.

If you are gonna use KSG, use the AIO as a base for it. Note that AIO will remove anything previously applied.

I wouldn't use anything in between the glaze and a carnauba, not NXT, not anything but that's just me. Similarly, I'd never use anything between AIO and SG.

If I were doing it, I'd take Danase's suggestion, I'd do SSR1, glaze, carnauba.

I have never used 3M glaze, but I have glazed over AIO/SG with sucess. My process was AIO-SGx2-Glaze-P21s, so similar to what your doing. Not sure how it held up though, as it wasn't my car and I haven't seen it since.

But he seemed to have his heart on AIO...

Yeah some people use it for almost every detail. Not me though...

FWIW, I find glazes to be of benefit on single stage paints and on b/c that I can't get perfect. If I can risk using the rotary and truly removing all the marring I never see any improvement from using a glaze, so I've quit using them for those applications. I've never tried RMG, but Meg's glazes (and IHG) just sit on top of Spies-Hecker clear and don't contribute a thing once you've buffed them. Different story if it has any marring though (even the stuff you can't really see with the naked eye).
