When polishing swirls out...

When polishing swirls out with, for example, 3M PI III MG or SFX1, what speed should the PC be set at? Should I increase/decrease pressure/speed during the process?



Is there a translation from PC speed to RPMs?
 
I like to run 3M and Megâ€â„¢s fairly fast (5-6) when working on defects and use slow passes. I usually start out at about 3-4 to spread it and then crank it up. Pressure wise I try to keep from bogging the speed down too much and let the PC/pad/product do the work. Haven't used any of the SFX polishes but I doubt they'd behave much differently.



You canâ€â„¢t really translate the PC into RPMâ€â„¢s because it randomly oscillates.
 
Just used SFX Polishes Saturday. I loved them (not intemetly). They work better than any polish I ever used and no mess (buffer marks or haze) When using #1 cutting polish.

Anyways, I worked a 2x2 area at 1 on my PC for a couple of minutes and you will see it start drying (littlehaze). Then, I turned up to 4 till it dried all the way, which was about two passes. Then wiped off. Killer stuff!

I've read and was taught to run the polish at 1,000 rpm and work a small area. You got to work it in slowely and not be in a hurry. work a small area. I used to go 4, but wasn't getting the results I wanted.

I do *all* my PC polishing at 5 or, more often, 6. The only times I'll go slower is on something extremely fragile or when using a product that flashes quite quickly.



IIRC, the numbers on the speed dial sorta correspond to orbits per minute.
