When is a good time to apply sealant

Hi guys,



I just bought a new car and it is about 2 months old now. I am convinced to use sealant after I have done further research on it. I have purchased the paint protector from the dealer when I bought my car but not sure is a wax or sealant. If it is a wax, should I still apply sealant on it now? Also, can I apply wax on top of a sealant?

depending on what combo you're using--but MOST cases I would say sure--top a sealant with wax--though for me personally I don't bother... I would probably strip everything down and put something I know to be a sealant if you don't know.



After that you can maintain with wax and sealant every couple months or something

As per my response in the other thread, dealer-applied paint protection products are usually mediocre-quality sealants. I'd want to put something on it ASAP and I'd clean the paint first (which might very well clean off any remnants of the dealership stuff, no big loss IMO).



I would *NOT* apply a wax on top of a sealant, if only because it'll preclude refreshing/adding more sealant later. OK, putting the Collinite on top of the dealership stuff would be OK, but since I'd want to clean it first I'm not really thinking about that.



The Collinite 845 discussed in the other thread should be thought of as a "wax", but it's a good wax that'll outlast many sealants. Just because something is called a "sealant", that doesn't always mean it's superior to products called "waxes". Beware marketing hype ;)
